Terrano outer cv boots

Post by NZlude »

Recently picked up a Manuel V6 Terrano.
Found out yesterday that both outer CV boots have split open.

Now my first question is, how hard is the process of putting new cv boots on?

Also, is there anything else I should look at doing while I am at it?

Thanks

If you don't know what you are doing it is a big job. From memory the bolts holding the shaft to the box has special shaped heads, mine did anyway. If the boots are split and its ben used off road the cv's will be stuffed or near it. Pull them apart and check for excessive wear and movement. Tell me, why did you not check them before purchase....common check on any IFS vehicle.

Rookie mistake, I guess I overlooked it. Went nuts looking for rust, but didn't think to look at the CV boots as there were no noises coming from the CV's.

It is a bit of a job.
Nothing hard about getting the whole shaft assembly out.
With the shafts out, you can push out the tin disc on the inner CV which gives you access to the cir-clip that retains the shaft into the inner. With the shaft apart the boot can be then fitted.
But if you don't have much mechanical prowess it can be a bit of a major.
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

you can get ones that slide over (or clip together round the cv), Im not sure if they would fit a terrano though. Google thme online - universal cv boot. seems to be really simple to do - unless im mistaken.

hiya,
I'm new, but have to change my boots as well. Any advice on removing the wheel bearing lock nut, where to source a tool to do it (and not pay $100's) or any idea of a number 8 wire replacement??

Cheers

You don't have to touch the wheel bearing to do the cv's :?
The cv shaft passes through the hub assembly and retains from the outside.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah pretty sure you just gotta take hub off and remove circlip, then it will slide out.

Yep, that's right. You'll only have to take the auto hub off.

Ok, got another question for the kiwis on here. CV boots from Repco; are they good quality or are Nissan CV boots advised (i.e. do Nissan CV boots last longer but are more expensive?)

BNT dude. Much cheaper.
You do know what REPCO stands for?
Rip Every Poor Cnut Off
But to answer your question, same same. They all last til they are perished then split.

Hi there,
Since its the long weekend i thought i would get into changing my cv boots.

So i have 2 questions

1. Hub cap removal (inner cap on the hub): What have you used to remove the hub cap? Do you normally destroy it taking it off? Mine is pretty tight (rust i think) so i wanted to get some guidance before i get physical with it.

2. ABS sensor: Do you have to disconnect the sensor at the plastic electrical block connector behind the front strut? Getting the sensor itself out was a bit of an effort!

Cheers

Took me a bit longer but got it all back together and recycled the grease/hup caps even though the outer rims were a little beat up.
