wanted/info on a offroad project truck

hay guys as title states I am wanting a project truck and want some idears on what sort if truck to get I want a runner that I can work on and add to it but doesn't need wof or rego as I'll tow it . so any idears welcome looking at old fj40s cause there o for awsome !! but any idears are taken on board

well chap, ya picked a good starter.. heh.. you planning on trailerin or A-framin?

depends on what ya wantin it for and the wheelin ya like to do..? a 40 is a solid base and ya can soon power steer, spring flip and do a shackle reversal etc.. a lux has those bits done but can modify like ruf and crossover steerin conv etc..

others will chime in about other vehicles, but just depends whats around in your price range i guess..

A trailer queen and as my car has been stolen im waiting for to know if its found i will sell it if its not ill pay it off and have about 3 k siting there for a project i still have a surf to tow around with .

my dad had a 70 series and a fj40 and now has a 2004 jeep and swears buy all of them so im so confused lol

**Oldish thread revival**
Im looking for a fj40 or similar project as well hopefully somewhere near hamilton although dont mind travelling a bit to pick it up. I plan on A framing it to start off with. Something around the 3k mark would be great. Basically I want something I can use and slowly add to it as I go. If anyone knows of anything would be great just give me a yell over pm, have had a look at a few of the 40's on tradme at the moment have one in particular in mind but auction closed on tuesday night and hasnt been relisted yet.
