12th/13th November

Post by phraza »

I know its early but hey, i'm away from tomorrow so i thought i'd kick this one off early.

Got tomorrow off work and driving down to the Tongariro National park, on Saturday walking the Tongariro Crossing which should be good, supposed to be a clear day!

Then Sunday have a bit of a play up Mt Ruapehu in the Jeep then head back to Auckland.

Will take heaps of pics and report back later in the weekend!

:D :D

Cheers,
2WD 06 Hilux... for now

Just got truck back from workshop... somehow managed to snap ALL the bolts/allen head things that hold the manual hubs on. WTF?! very odd indeed, explains the knocking noise though... I'm surprised they still worked/engaged/didn't fall off... ah mechanicals... made of pure (black) magic :/

yeah... not one I want to repeat lol

I'm guessing one crapped out and snapped somehow then there was a bit of movement... etc, etc

You'd hope they didnt break one, think, "ahh #### it" and do the same to the next. Haha not all mechanics are bad, but i can see how some people seem to think so.

haha, nope... trusted spanner spinner :) took it in because of "strange clunking noise" and because one of the bolt things wouldnt screw back in (hanging loose) wouldn't screw in cos it was in 2 pieces lol, turned out the other ones were in similar condition.

Picked Jeep up from William @ Carterton Auto Services, front brakes have been re-built with new pistons, rotors & pads, then to top it off one new universal required to get past the warrant man.

Great job, and William has had the jeep in the back yard for the last two weeks and didn't charge me a parking fine :)

Great things happening at the work-shop, lots of 4wd bits and pieces.

Well....

I had a very eventful night.

We took 4 trucks up muriwai beach for the night, the plan was to go camp up the beach a bit in the dunes.

We decided to take the scenic route  a couple of kms past the wilson road entry, it started off with a fun bowl to play in then turned into a bit of a track, we played around then headed up the track and went down a big decent that we knew we couldnt get back up but we knew where the track was going, allgood, until we got to a hill climb that posed a slight problem, 2 trucks made it up no worries, the other 2 wouldnt have a bar of it.

So after many attempts we got some advise that there was a forestry track that goes just down parallel to the beach then brings you back out to put us on track...

We took this option then things got interesting, after many walking missions to find out way we ended up bush bashing on what we thought was the track... wrong we ended up behind locked gates inside the forestry area

We managed to find our way back onto the right track after a few hours but it was too late to risk going the wrong way so we set up camp in the dunes, found our way out fine in the morning only to find the tide heading in, ive never had such a huge adrenaline rush before, heading down the beach with 4 trucks at full noise with the tide metres away from us, 1 truck overheated (had a few issues making the truck struggle) so we attached a tow rope to another truck and all was well til they both overheated with no time to stop.

Anyways too much typing not enough photos

My mates truck decided it needed more camber

Had a great weekend, went to the coast with a couple of guys, 5 kids and the wife. Did the Chasm, a track in Seddonville and Waipuna Tunnels. Damage was as to be expected... big dent in right rear door, two missing flares, large dent in roof gutter bit, broken speedo cable, snapped winch rope... not at all bad for a weekends word :-) Will be sorting out some video over the next few days,

Sold the Challenger. But had to shoot up north (Mangonui) to the wife's grandparents as they arent to well so spent the weeking tidying up there place and took 3 hours to mow there lawns haha dam lifestyle blocks. The bighorn ended up doing the driving so put the standard tyres back on and it looked stupid  and also had a vibration from the back end on the way back down so changed the diff oils and greased the driveshaft and she was good as gold.

Saw Scruff123 on the way back on Sunday before Kawakawa, truck looked clean so I take it you didnt go to woodhill on Saturday?

Sunday Afternoon went to Sibainmud's house and finished off the EGR crap removed that is all the small rubber hoses and switches apart from the important one that is the air con :D, so soon I will have a whole new Engine bay layout. going to be moving a few things around, there is nogthing like a clean and tidy engine bay.

Sorry no photo's to add, but will do when I have done abit more to the engine bay.

Cheers
