Started my truck this afternoon, warmed it up and put it into gear and backed it round to face my gate then parked it up to get some stuff from the house. I turned it off and it went onto the turbo timer, as I got out of the cab I accidently hit the accelerator then the motor started to chug and idle really low.... so I just hit the kill button and went inside. Then i came back and tried to start it and it would turn on for a couple of seconds then die. I’m pretty much lost as to what the problem is so any input or advice would be great.
It is a 1986 mwb 70 series with a 13bt engine.
Cheers for any help!

Re: BJ 74 wont start
There is a a little air valve that opens with the ign power, cannot start without it being open. Its on the side of the block under the intake it could be stuffed?
Will have 3 air lines going into it, try pulling one off at a time to see if it starts. If it does then you won't be able to turn off the engine until you block the hose off.

Had a look and i might have located them, not sure thought im green as the grass and to me they all have the possibilty to be air lines under torch light

Ill have a poke round tommorow and see what happens
Also the pre-heat button no longer lights up, is that related to the airlines?
Cheers
Re: BJ 74 wont start
Couldn’t find those air lines so tried tow starting it today, and the engine didn’t start. So had a look round the engine bay and found some sort of fuel pump made of white plastic then pushed it in and out a few times, tried tow starting it... and it started and ran for about 3 minutes and then the revs dropped and it died again. So repeated the process to start it and get it home, but this time it ran fine and didnt die for the whole journey back to its place in the yard. Would this point to a faulty diesel pump or wiring not doing its job right?
Re: BJ 74 wont start
i had issues with my 13BT not turning off and also stalling after running
not turning off was the stop solenoid thingy full of crap (i belive its what above is talking about) and the stalling after running was a fuel feed line to the pump only finger tight... it would run ok at revs, but as soon as it idled for too long or you turned it off i had to prime and re-bled the filter...... tightened the fitting and it was mint
(sorry i cant be more technical! but you get the idea, its something to look for!)
