what a rip off!!!!

Post by tuk »

Finally brought a timming belt for my 1990 rugger 2.8dt, paid 87nz (quoted 150supercheap) including freight from the UK via ebay, only took 4 days to arrive. Now i have to find a replacement timing belt cover as mine has a huge burn mark init from the pully, appears the plastic may have bulged. I couldnt find a cover at any wreakers so just tried the daihatsu parts (toyota) and this is the email i recieved.

In regards to your inquiry for the timing belt cover for the Rugger this part is not stocked in New Zealand and it has a retail price of $526.00 Inc GST and will have to be indented x Japan (about 2 to 3 weeks). Please let me know if you would like me to order this for you.

Can't comment on the timing cover but make sure you replace any tensioner or idler pulleys also. The belt itself is only half the job.

What type of plastic is it? How badly damaged.
Could drop it in to a plastic welding place and get them to cut and fill the affected area? I've had good results from plastic welding before.

the pully wore a hole in the cover, let in the mud and it snapped the belt, took the chance and got one from overseas, put it in last nite and kicked over 1st time. only started it for a little bit as didnt have waterpump or anything hooked up. The hole in the cover is about 50mm wide by 150mm in a half circle. I know i should do tensioners and bearings but just opened them up and slightly reconditioned them with grease.
Only a mud truck thats been through a couple of wars so dont want to overspend on it. Adventually i can see a toyota motor and box in it once 1 kill the rugger 2.8.
