kzn 130 Surf

Post by NUFC »

I have recently aquired my first truck. It's a Kzn130 surf with an automatic gear box and 1KZ engine. I'm realy new to everything about this truck and just had a few questions.

1. Seems to heat up quick? I sit for 10-30 secconds before takeing off and then about 2km down the road the guage reads normal running temp.

2. Transmission heat? I just took it up to Hawkes Bay and a few trips round red rocks and have noticed the transmission tunnel seems to get pretty hot.

Other than that it seems fine but what other issues to i need to keep an eye out for? I just got it a week and a half ago from a delaer so I would like to find any potential problems sooner rather than later. Any help will be much appreciated :D

Have a look at this Australian site: http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/
Has good maintenance advice etc. probably a good idea to overhaul your viscous fan and make sure your cooling system is all good. Trans tunnels on surfs do tend to get really warm, not much air circulation under there with the engine and other junk blocking it.

I would personally say put a bigger trans cooler on front since its a auto, and then flush the radiator out flush the fluids , then fit a water temp gauge into the top radiator hose, and fill up again with fresh anti freeze or before that if u want to go all out put a new thermostat in it just so you know how good it is.

My surf use to heat up pretty quick to so dont stress about that

Thanks guys :D . Helps set my mind at ease. I did a fluid change and flush on the first day i got it because i'm fairly pedantic like that. I was planning on getting a water temp sooner or later so i guess i'll do that sooner :) . I'll keep my eye out for a good trans cooler set up. Any recomendations?

I just got the biggest one i could find an fitted it upnice and high in front of radiator. Think its a 20 row one.
If you plan on doing sand work or run bigger tyres a temp gauge for the trans is also a good idea
