Marshalling for Welly Winch - HELP

Post by skid »

gudday

as the title suggests we're putting the call out for marshalls for the Welly Winch Challenge.

Event is running Fri/Sat/Sun of the 25/26/27th November.

It will be run in a similar style to the Kiwi Challenge we ran at Queens Birthday whereby the marshalls will take a small group of 2-3 trucks out to do stages and return them to the hangar so they can get their next set of stages and go out with a different marshall.

We need marshalls for Friday afternoon, all day saturday and sunday morning.

Most hazards are within easy driving distance of less than 5 mins to the stages and its easy driving (2wd). The only stages we need a competent driver to marshall are at the end of cruiser drive

Friday night we require a few vehicles to park up at intersections for the duration of the night stage and possibly the same again on Saturday night

Camping onsite at Rallywoods as per usual and all the usual requirements for you to bring to look after yourself.

All help greatly appreciated and it would be nice if you could stick your name up here to show you're available,

Cheers

Hey how are you going to do the marshall briefing and training Reece, do we have to download and try and famularise ourselves with the whole rule book or are you going to give us a cut down version of the applicable competition rules and processes we'll need to know out on the stages?

the more marshalls we have the easier it is to run, otherwise some of the marshalls are gonna have to run after the trucks and move some tape for when the truck comes back, etc etc etc

the more the merrier, if you bring friends along then at least you will have somebody to talk to

timeframe.....................

1pm kick off friday afternoon with 3 stages, needing at least 1 marshall per stage but more would make it easier

8pm night stage, need marshalls in vehicles to block roads

saturday morning 9am start time running 4 groups of 2 stages each throughout the whole day, need 4 marshalls to control each group or 2 stages and as many helpers as possible to help those marshalls

8pm sat night stage, track blockers required

9am sunday we start the 4 morning stages before calling it a day around lunchtime or thereabouts

will be preferable for the marshalls to have their own vehicle to get around as you will be taking 2-3 competitors out following you to the stages and returning them to the hangar before taking another group out until all groups have done your stages

hope all that made sense, its being run very similar to this years Kiwi Challenge

basically the more helpers the easier it becomes and not wanting to scare helpers away but some of you may be stuck down a track marshalling an intersection for an hour at a time :( but maybe being stuck down there you get to see more action :D

could we please start a helpers list so we know exactly whos committed and what days

cheers

So are you not worrying about marshall training and the national competition rules, will it just be winging it and see how you go on the day?

I have the rules printed out and they will be handed out to Marshall's on the day, you can read them though if you would like, they are at THIS LINK

I also have the score cards printed and a few other bits of paper with stuff on it... (about 500 pieces or paper in total)

Your concerns have been noted Mr Green, but due to all the track clearing that has gone on, we seem to have forgotten about training for the marshalls, which I may point out, nobody has actually begun a list of who is actually coming to help with marshalling.

You are correct and there are quite a few rules to be reading through to do with the do's and don't's of the sport, but in my humble opinion I don't beleive we will be following them entirely.
Firstly I just don't think we will have the huge amout of marshalls required to hide them behind every tree watching for naughty things being done by the competitors and secondly we definitely don't have the budget to be buying hundereds of air horns to blast in the bush when the vehicle starts wheel spinning and as you know, if you start spinning wheels in Rallywoods then you are not going anywhere fast so its best to be setting a winch point pronto.

I believe we will manage to pull this event off sucessfully even with the lack of assistance we've seen in various areas.

Cheers
