Superwinch 2012 Cancelled

Hi All, Regretfully the Superwinch next year will not take place, Both Tony and I are stepping aside for a year due to work commitments .this decision was not made lightly but to be fair to both the competitors and sponsors etc we felt we could not give it the time needed to make it a successful event, The Norwest club itself are not in a position to run the event as they are committed to other projects that will need 100% support from its members .Hopefully given that there is still plenty of time available another club will step up and run something in the early part of next year to fill the gap from now till Rotorua ..Tony and I would like to thank all the competitors, sponsors, Marshals etc for the support given over the past years and we will be back in 2013.

It is indeed a hard thankless task running an event.

To be honest it seems the sport is in decline so you may not have got the attendance you would like anyway.

So many promises of competitors saying they will attend your event and they never show.

I firmly believe the constant rule changes are harming the sport, bring back the old days of 2 classes ------- up to 32" and 33" and above, the sport thrived back then.

So many promises of competitors saying they will attend your event and they never show.

I firmly believe the constant rule changes are harming the sport, bring back the old days of 2 classes ------- up to 32" and 33" and above, the sport thrived back then.

The K.I.S.S. method springs to mind

To see the sport survive:

Open the rules up for a proper modified class for the dudes with good backing and fat wallets

Keep a production based class for clubbies.

Get rid of WOF and Reg in both class's, it a unecceseary expense and has no bearing on the competition anymore

Correct the wording of the rules in the book so the rules actually state what they mean so they can't be interpreted differently by every event organizer and competitor

Allow spectators so people can actually come watch and build the desire to compete

Allow spectators so the competitors can get some sponsor ship to help with the $270 entry fees. Sponsors won't sponsor you if no body is going to be there to watch the truck they sponsored compete.

Allow competitors to watch the other trucks competing. It's farkn boring sitting around for 3hrs and often more at a time with nothing to do because you can't even go and watch.

Get rid of the frilly stuff from the events so the competitors don't have to pay. Burger stands, coffee stands, catered meals all that is not necessary, it might bring the price of entry back to the $150 mark. We all bring our own food and coffee!!!!!!

Allowing spectators would allow more money to be made by the organizers.$10 per head, plus they might even pay for the coffee stand and burger stand so the competitors don't have to.

Probably the wrong place for it, but my thoughts on what's up with the sport.

The stages are fun' but the above aspects have let it down.

pretty much like the sheffield mudplug 20-30 odd trucks in each class, hundreds of spectators, up in the top events of all time for me, felt like going to the old stock cars when i was a kid

Funny thing is, that if you look back a few years before there were all the different classs and rules, the events had a far bigger turn out of vechicles?
And they all had regos and warrants.......

I remember paying $1000 for one event. Got a cool shirt though.

You guys have got it cheap. And just so you don't get too far off track. The coffee kart and food kart at the Rotorua event was organised so that we were paid a commission on what was taken over the counter by the public. Yet again the club made a loss on the event.

For those that haven't run an event before, please give it a go and find out how it all works.

Land access normally costs us $2000 plus for the weekend ,We are lucky to break even and its not unknown to make a loss ,I agree it would be nice to have spectators but in reality its always been put in the to hard basket,either the land owners says no or the site makes it to hard to manage them .You cant compare it to a trials event as we are normally spread out over a 300-500ha property you cant allow joe public to take their road going truck all over the property as the idiot factor comes into it ,I for one dont want to spend months in court as a event director as some idiot got taken out by a competitor in a bush run or night stage .and to top it all off we normally struggle to get enough marshals let alone people to manage spectators .Even at Rotorua where spectators were allowed and very well managed we came down one of the stages doing around 50=60kph and rounded a corner to find a guy and small child clambering up a bank to get off the track ,we missed them by inches.

Im with DB,im now heavily involved in two other forms of offroad motorsport,i drive in the offroad racing scene and co drive in the national trials scene.I think the winch challenge scene could learn alot from these two sports.my 2c

I agree with everything Steve has said.

I had a whole lot more to say but the people complaining don't listen so what is the point?

We are having a meeting this weekend to dicuss bringing our event forward to replace the Superwinch event and will confirm when we are holding it asap.
