413 SU carb vs escudo efi

Post by unadunted »

Gidday. I have a SJ413 inlet manifold with a SU carb fitted. Would this fit a 1600 escudo engine and be a better (simpler) option than the electronic fuel injection? I'm all for the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid), especially off road. Thanx

If you are running the 1600 then I would stick with the efi. Wouldn't mind the su setup for my 1300 though

SU's run well off road. They used to use them in trialling, cos they would basically run at any angle. I had one on the old moonhopper C class. You did need to get the gas on progressively (as they work on a venturi effect) so not really instant power, but not bad. It is important to get the right size carb for the capacity of the engine (to ensure enough air flow) and to get the right needle, so as to get the air/fuel mix right through the rev range.

I also had a Samurai with a G16A 16v injected and it had way more boogie, much quicker pick up and it loved to rev :D :D :D

Personally I would stick with the injection. The computers are fairly robust and there weren't actually that many wires to hook up when we fitted it.

Not going into the why's but physically a 1.3 manifold will bolt up to a 1.6 8v head only . It will not bolt on to a 1.6 16v head . That may solve your delema straight off .

Cheers
