Long time no posts....
I have been re-energised with motivation. (thanks Hosehustler, Rob-mu and Ruf zuki!)
I have been tinkering once a month for 5 minutes or so for the past year...
So have achieved next to nothing.
I have installed Longfields and a driveshaft brake.
I have also trailered it from shed to shed and the odd lawn and to its final shed for some serious summer building in Otematata where I am working for the next 3 months or so.
I have purchased a few goodies:
ARB for the front,
Lockright for the rear,
Chromoley Rears,
and a winch....
I am looking forward to getting this thing finished hopefully in time for a trip early next year.
Also have to get it certed before the evil higher up wankers change the rules again!
Anyway, I'll try slap some pics up when I can.
See you all at the mud plug tomorrow.
Daniel

Totara View Cres. We have been renting a couple of houses down there for a year now, we're doing a big upgrade for Meridian at Benmore. I have a few more months work down there. There seems to be alot of good places to play.

Ok, I have a few questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me.
Is there any issues regarding cert for putting my radiator in the tray on the back? I need some room in the front for my winch. Which leads me to my second question, the lower support on the front of the body that ties between the two front body mounts, can i chop this out to make room for my winch mount once the radiator has gone? Has anyone else done this to the front of their Hilux's and will it still be certifiable?
I geuss at the end ofthe day I can just ring Wayne and ask. But people's experiences/thoughts are always helpful!
There has been some decent time spent on this rig in the past month or so, here's hoping to be able to wheel it sooner rather than later!!
Once I get the diffs back in, I can attempt some flexing!!

I wouldnt be too keen to put the radiator on the back for a road going truck fella. Unless you build some big ducting. It'll be sweet below 50-60kph but overheat at 100kph. You need that airflow created by speed to cool them, the fans cant keep up.

Dunno about your body mounts but for a rear mounted radiator there has to be a firewall between the driver and radiator, and also the pipes, so you can't run them trough the cabin unless you cover them in case they burst.

Hmmmmm. Something to think about, the pipes would run down the top side of each chassis rail. I've read before about people using the combo of good fans and shrouds but I can't recall if this was on road trucks or not.
I think i might struggle to get the winch in close enough.
There are thousands of Hiluxs out there with winches though.... I may be over stressing about how close it needs to be.

Hey mate good to see youre back at it. I put the radiator on the back of mine a while ago, had a few issues with overheating when on the open road but after putting bleed valve at motor end to remove any air, a shroud for the fans and a perspex scoop/duct thing to catch the air its been sweet since. And as for the lower support for radiator mines long gone haha winch fits in real nice, dont think the cert man will like it (mines got an old cert, gets wof's) but id check with him first.
Heres a link to my attempt u might find something useful

and a couple pics of perspex scoop, real simple. Its actually curved and about 50mm above roof line supported by the bars

Cheers for the info, I considered the mid mount option. But then id need a different fuel tank as I wouldnt be able to get the winch central. Although that might not matter? But the second issue with mid mounting is trying to
Get the cable to the front with a clear straightish path.

there are plenty of guys on here that have done it on hiluxes. don't need the winch central or facing fowards. Just gota have around 800mm-1mtr between last fairlead and the winch to prevent bunching. one guys even done it on his lwb prado.

Interesting, I'll certainly consider it. Next time I'm at the shop I'll sus out if i can make it fit. I like the idea of running it out the back aswell if need be. But i understand wonches should only spool back under the drum. Has anyone got any links to mid-mount setups?

I am considering putting in a aftermarket fuel tank. There are some 60L ones for $400 on trade me ready to go basically.
Im considering this to get rid of the horribly shaped old one that sits below the chassis rails and it would give me better options for mid mounting my winch!
Has anyone had any things to watchout for with aftermarket tanks?
It will be certed with everything else so thats not an issue.
Advice appreciated.
