New member with big plans/ 3.8 hilux

Post by built-not-bought »

Hi all,

Have been meaning to sign up on this for a long time, finally here I am lol.
A NZ thorough breed but now in Australia (always a Kiwi at heart)

Not long ago purchased a 94 LN106 Hilux with great potential.
Paint job complete and winch to be fitted, 32in bighorn muddies and just purchased a VP 3.8/TH700 tranny and transfer case adaptor so the fun begins.

If anyone has done this conversion, any advice would be much appreciated.

Hey mate welcome.
Where in Australia are you? I know in some states the motor has to be younger than the car it's going into.

Hey Tim,

I'm in Qld/Yeppoon and you just jogged my memory. I have heard of something along those lines. I will endevour to find out more.
I'm going to find an engineer and talk to him before I start. I pick up all my goodies tomorrow :D :D
Any idea what year the VP was made? I "think" it was 91-93 so I might be stuffed!!!!!

You'll find Queensland has the toughest rules for cars/4x4s and they are one of the states where the new motor has to be the same year or younger. Would definitely talk to an engineer first and apply to Queensland transport if you want to lift the vehicle more than about an inch with springs, and up to 50mm body lift which also requires permission. Unfortunately you wont get those tyres on there legally either, only allowed 15mm above standard and 1.5x the width. Was about to go through all this as I live in cairns usually but put it in the too hard basket and bought a car so i wouldn't get the urge to modify. Here's some light reading for modifications if ya like.
