ORE thread notifcations?

Post by petefj40 »

Once upon a time, if you posted to an ORE forum thread we used to get an email or a notification telling us of new posts to that thread. But not anymore.

Some people hated the notifications (aye nibs). But hey, if you hated them that much, there was or is an option to switch that ability off or on.

I started this poll just to see if people want it back or not.

I miss it personally. :D

I think it's an omen boys.
Mike, Reece n co don't want the notification side of the site back up and running.

Not sure what I did wrong in setting up this poll. But I'm sure of one thing. It's my fault and not ORE's. :D

Sorry fellas.

Why do you really need email notifications?

I'm being serious here, and actually want to know why you need them?

I'm trying to watch TV3 right now (farking cool re run movie on)

But I'll respond to this post even though I never got an email saying you responded.

The reason SOME of us simple folk like the notifications from this site is very simple.

If we post to a thread? If there IS a response to it?? We get an email telling us so...So we don't have to check it all the time to see if there is one.. It's as simple as that. I find it amusing that you wonder why to be honest.

I'm sorry that the notifications side of the site when engaged causes so many issues. Maybe they should run the ORE server software on a Apple Mac? I'm sure it would run faultlessly.

But in saying that.

I and so many others really DO appreciate all the hard work Mike and his moderators do on this site.

But me and obviously others Do miss the old notifications side of the site.

OK, that makes sense.

It's just that I never look at email notifications, and just view new posts, and look at those I have already posted in, as well as any that look interesting, so didn't even think about using the email notifications.

Thanks for taking time out of your TV watching to explain. :D

I personally really miss the notifications. I don't always log on often and trawling thru the list of un interested posts, its easy to miss a thread I am actually interested in.

my 2 cents

ps, to Reece, sucks that this feature causes system instability!!! maybe can fix with Duct tape (what can't it fix!!!)

Well I personally am not going to spend another day (yes a whole day) trying to debug and fix the issue and possible still be no better off, perhaps in the new year but then I do have to get my truck registered and warranted (prob a better use of the time cause then I can get out 4wding or up to rallys).

There is a button called view your posts and any topics you have replied to or created will be listed there in order of most recent activity (better than email notifications). It only will take you 10 seconds to browse the list to see if your threads have been replied to. The site is running fantastic now minus one little feature that a button easily replicates well enough.

What about limited notifications on only certain types of threads .
i.e. Build Threads.

saying that though forum stability is more important , and "view active topics" and "view your posts" allow full visibility of whats going on.

Keep the email notification. And dont alway listen to Manority

I think The notifications would keep people on the forum.

Hi Mike,

I think you are doing a tops job with this site, and if you carn't fix it then so be it, no point crying over spilt milk is it, anyway it is just something more to fill other's in boxes.

Anyway keep it up and get your truck running you need your time for the fun stuff aswell.

Just thought I say that.

Cheers.

Agreed, PM's are more important, that way if someone really needs something they will PM someone and they will get an email about them.

That could work. I thing we need to consider something even an alarm or special message like pm that would link to quote or responses sent. It helps to keep the threads rolling. I ran a thread and forgot to check people had responded and I responded 1 week later which is too late and I had been on the forum.

This thread is covered well in the link below.

http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... =6&t=29522

I'm with Mike.
I'm happy knowing it will be sorted at a later date. Mike and the moderators have enough to do in the mean time.

Even if the poll did work (on the thread). Resulting in a want for notifications back won't make any difference.
