Top house Rd/Rainbow Rd Hanmer Mid Jan

Hi All,

Just looking into the mentioned roads in nth canterbury. Has anyone done this trip and have an opinion on it? This will be my first planned trip. Any info appreciated. I have a link here..

Its a nice drive through the Rainbow Road, Good gravel roads most of the way through, a few fords that can get rather high if it rains, but Mid jan should be a nice easy drive through, just keep an eye out for mountain bikers and motorcycles.
If you are on the hunt for wildlife, consider heading up the Leatham Valley/ Branch river once you come out of the rainbow. There are a few old huts up there to stay in

Yup, its a nice drive, you wont need 4wd at all, its pretty low key, but a really nice scenic drive, we stayed at Coldwater Creek overnight, nice spot.
