2DEAFN's "ToyLux" Project

Post by 2DEAFN »

So ive been meaning to throw this project up on the site for a while now , but been trying to get ahead of myself so the build doesnt seem like its always in limbo mode

The updates will be slow but will do my best to keep u all up to date with pics/info as the build goes on and makes progress for those who are interested.

Is going to be a ground up rebuild :

NON-Road legal
LN130 3 door cab cut down to single cab
Internal roll cage
Custom dash to accomadate all gauges etc
Bucket seats
4 point harnesses
Hilux rears up front ( or poss 2" lifted )
80 series coils in the rear
Longer shocks all round
35x11.5x15" Silverstone Extreme Trekkers
4.8 Diffs
Lexus v8
Lexus auto trans with surf tranny adapted
Rad on back
Custom rear deck
Winch ( closer to finishing )
And some nice bar work to finish it up

Probably have forgotten some stuff of the list , or may change throughout the build ....

Started off with a LN106 front half of chassis then picked up a rear half of a LN130 chassis and stiched the two togeather to give me a coiled rear setup.Reinforced the join with 2x 4mm plates on either side .

Some photos of cutting /prepping /measuring/welding the two halfs togeather:
( I got my old man and grandfather to weld this as they are the ones with the experience :D )

And then after a few hours of measuring/checking/measuring/checking and then welding we got something like this....

Image

I quickly zapped up a lil frame out of some spare box section and castors i had laying around to make it easyier to manourvre by myself

Image

Cut some more of the very end ( approx 200mm) and then painted the LN130 rear half in chassis black as i will be leaving the suspension setup standard "for now" apart from lifted coils and panhard drop bracket.

More photos and updates to come , will update when i have a bit more time on my hands :D

Some more updates :

Started pulling apart all of the drum brakes to replace them with the disc conversion , stripped the diff housing replaced the wheel bearings and painted it all up

Mr2 brake calliper bracket yet to be purchased and put on.

Ended up looking like this , still waiting on the disc rotors to be shipped in as they were out of stock

Cheers Niblik , haha yeh i guess you could say that hes doing it wrong huh , ya willing to show us how its done mate ?! Board was there to stop the "rubber neckers" driving by getting distracted.

And yeh plenty more hours to be spent on the ToyLux but im sure it will be well worth it when i get to take it out for a play.

Have now got the rear end rolling on original suspension , had the 80 series springs in but the chassis sat to high with no weight on it and would of been a akward working height to lift cab on etc so out they came and the standard surf springs have gone back in for the mean time until i get the weight of the cab , engine and box mounted.
Disc rotors are now fitted :D

some pics :

Some pics of the chopped Ln130 3 door cab that was sourced via "muddyhilux" ( cheers buddy )

And the arrival of it getting home , was a nice snug fit in the trailer :D

Image

Off the trailer straight onto a pallet and some blocks for the meantime as the chassis not quite ready for the body to go on..but it will get there hopefully first week of Sep she'll be on the chassis

Sorry I dont quite get what your saying?!

Im running with the LN106 chassis at the front , the front four factory body mounts on chassis line up with the cab mounts of the LN130 body. And then il just fab the rear mounts up to suit. When i joined the hilux chassis to surf chassis the chassis rails were the same witdh/height aswell......

Ohh haha sorry mate , was a bit confused myself

Thats handy to know that the ln85 ute rear will join to the 130 .Your truck looks tidy , any more pics or a build thread etc showing a better shot of the rear ??

looking good mate, keep at it :D

hey bro

had a look through the shed and i found what i could.the very front is 2x round disks like below, tube usually goes up from underneath
Image
and then the next 2 mounts back either side are the bolt on for the top
Image
then the big blocks go underneath i think
Image

its currently poring with rain so dont really want to go crawling under the complete truck right now sorry mate
hope that helps mate

S*!!!!t ....Been a few months since i have added to this so think its about time i update u all ....This year has flown by but slowly notching away at it !!

Am currently going through the process of rebuilding the front axle , putting new wheel bearings etc throughout and rebuilt all the hubs...Was time consuming cleaning every little bit and re-greasing it but im sure itl be worth it in the long run.

Have sourced a late model Surf tailgate and am going to use that to fill in the rear of the cab , decided on this as it will be unique and also so i can utilise the sliding window in the rear :D maybe the demister aswell if i get really keen  , No pics as of yet as i havent seen one done in nz so sort of trail and error but im sure il work it al out and is due to begin next week , will have the chassis rolling on all four wheels and cab mounted on by next week aswell so will update with pics as i know u all hate the written stuff

Also have just purchased a set of 15x10 Beadlock rims to fit on truck aswell
