Proposed Teams event .Easter

Post by monstr »

Hi People
Seeing as it looks like there wont be a winch challenge until Rotorua next year ,How would you guys feel about a teams event ,A true 24 hour challenge ,Tracks would open around mid day and run right through the night until mid day the following day , Because of Forestry restrictions there is absolutely no camping allowed ,but there is a camp ground 10 min drive away for those that need it ,We would supply a running BBQ and there would be a compulsory meal break in the evening ,It would be Run along the same lines as the HB tough truck challenge with a few minor changes to suit our conditions. , Very few rules, I want to make it as simple as possible. Soft top trucks will need a min 4 point cage, Seat belts ok; tow hooks front and rear usual recovery gear, etc, Teams of 3 trucks, 2 must have winch. You wont need a full on winch challenge truck to enter .
This will be an endurance event not a race; there will be timed sections through a couple of stages but apart from that the team who completes the most tracks will win .We are putting together the final bits and pieces now and will let you know all details ASAP .
What I can tell you is it will be run over 2 days in Easter next year, it will be limited to 10 teams and its being held in Woodhill forest ,
Any feed back, comments, suggestions .appreciated.

Now your talking!!!!!!!

One of my fravourite aspects of the HB Tuff Truck is the stage maps each team gets per stage.

My least fravourite is the compulsory rest stop in the middle of the night.

Be interesting to see how it all works out, hope ya get a good turn out, these events are awesome!!!!!!

Gutted its at Easter

keen as. where you talking about?. Im a hawkesbay tough truck organiser and would be awesome to go to someone elses. WE stoped running ours right thru the night as there was absoloute worn out zombies doing dangerous thing as there judgement had gone. personaly i like the 24 hr plan . after all its an edurance event of man and machine. the more you can take the emphasis away from a speed event the better, makes everyone slow down and have more fun. and more inter team comradarie amongst teams as they take the time too socalize. meet more people from further away from home and maybe more similar events would come from it.

Hi Clive ,Its in West Auckland ,Got to be Honest the idea came after doing your comp this year .We had such a ball and the amount of actual seat time was brilliant ..We plan to run it along the same lines as you have in the past as "if its not broken dont fix it ".The main reason for doing a 24h non stop event is we cant get the ok to camp on site the forestry are a bit anal about that .the other main consideration was running it over Easter allowed teams to travel up the previous day if they needed to, to give them time to rest up before the event (camp ground/motel) only 10 min away) and not have to take time off work traveling to and from the comp.

not to get off topic, but if someone has the dates of other events it would save any double bookings.

dunno what the 4x4challenges winch challenge calander is but theres the kiwi challenge teams event at Rallywoods on QB Weekend and also the Costa Plenty tuff truck teams event comp the same weekend in the Manawatu/Wairarapa, went there last year its a real boggy rolling property, the hawkes bay tuff truck is a bi annual event every 2 years in Sept so that wont be till 2013, dunno what else is happening around the rest of the NI?

You state you cant camp over night due to Foresty Restrictions...cant help but think they wont want a 24hour even either.
Thinking safety & OSH etc..its an accident waiting to happen.People driving in rugged terrain sleep deprived isnt clever, thats why truck drivers are only allowed to drive a certain number of hours per day & week.Driving sleep deprived is like driving drunk.

Hi ,Thanks for you concern but I think you have really got to compare apples with apples .While sleep deprivation will come into it these guys are Not driving on public road at 100kph plus nor are they wheeling 40 ton rigs ,they will be driving on pre driven tracks in a pine forest where they will be lucky to exceed 20kph .the people who enter an event like this go in with their eyes open and know what to expect and prepare for it .

I have done 9 24hr events now, the most successful start at the night and run through until the next evening. We only ever did one the other way starting in the am and the night was a killer and it went back to night/day.

The Start time is not set in stone yet.have had a bit of feed back on this and i must admit its prob 50/50 either way .but we are leaning towards a 4-5pm start and finish .as the stages are quite long this should give all the teams at least 1 or 2 stages in daylight to get used to the terrain and forest before dark ,

awesome.. cant wait, are you going to be allowing more than 10 teams? because it sounds like theres going to be alot. a much wider audience now that you dont need a tuff truck to compete,(alot more interesting)
