Weld the probe in the exhaust manifold, before the turbo, and as mid stream as you can be.

I've taken my EGR pipe off, and made a blank with a fitting to hold EGT sensor. It not 100% ideal location, but its pretty good, and means didn't have to weld/drill manifold.
I did it all in-place, but it's far from easy to get to...
Hidden up between turbo and engine you'll need lots of patience to get to it
Note to others- If you've got your gearbox out, do it then! would make it heaps easier to get to EGR pipe 8)

This is from underneath, looking up at exhaust manifold. (bellhousing big grey bit)

Temps are roughly 650c max, any higher and I'll back off throttle.
But only ever get that going uphill at high speeds (or very steep).
Get approx 350c cruising along at 100kph on flatroad, bit more temp with headwind or trailer etc.
50kph cruise doesn't register on gauge (200 start temp), but it can blip up a lil on 0-50 acceleration.
I now only watch gauge when temps are likely to go up (ie steep hills).
Only engine mods are snorkel and mufflers cut out from stock exhaust.
Muffler delete hasn't made much (if any) power increase, but it must get rid of heat quicker, as EGT is slower to rise, and dosen't peak quite as high as it would have (ie it lower with same throttle opening, or can give more throttle without going over 600c(and thus hold higher speed)).

Hope this helps without being confusing...
Nathan
