That stirs the memories a bit, some 30 (cough) years ago I spent 3 months over a summer working on Mt Dasher doing fencing and other farm duties towards the practical requirements of my B.E. (Ag) at Lincoln/Canterbury. Some great experiences including driving a Toyota Landcruiser Flat Deck and an old Austin Gypsy.
Spent one week staying in a musterers hut way out the back while we put in a 4 wire electric fence-line running of solar panels.

Cheers

The meeting time is 8.30am on Saturday 4th.
Meeting place is the carpark of the Awamoa reserve opposite Oamaru South New World, on S/H 1. Access to the carpark is via Awamoa and Perth streets.
The safari starts at Mt. Dasher Station after briefing at 9.30am. Experienced 4WD Club members will be available throughout the Safari if any assistance is needed. This is a relaxed, family friendly safari and escort vehicles will be spaced at intervals in the line. From the starting point the route is on an excellent track above the South Branch of the Kakanui river leading to Scout hill and eventually to Siberia Hill, the volcanic area of the Kattothyrst and Mt Dasher [1304m]. The tracks here are little more demanding but there is plenty to explore. The 2 day group will have more time here while the 1 day group will return to Scout hill and explore other areas to the west before returning to the safari starting point in the late afternoon. The 2 day group will return later to set up camp around Scout Hut where there is plenty of room for camping and safe cooking and even a flush toilet ! BRING ALL CAMPING GEAR AND FOOD AND DRINK. On day 2 the safari will continue over Grassy Ridge and Half Moon Spur and eventually to Middle Hut. There is good swimming there, in the Deep Creek pools just to the west. The route then takes us across the North Branch of the Kakanui river to Pisgah Spur and via McKenzie Rd. to Livingstone. It is then about 14 km to Duntroon which is on the Kurow / Oamaru Rd.

Registrations on the day are welcome.
