I was trying to find some of that flash orange paint for the chassis but had to make do with plain old black

you must have known I've been up to no good lately, finely got everything back from the panelbeaters at the start of Feb about the same time I busted my right shoulder out in the bush so its been a slow start to the year. Sig did a bit more playing around and machineing etc and got the clutch fork and release bearing to fit into the bellhousing with the twinplate clutch and snuck the engine and gearbox back in the chassis without even inviting me over to drink a few Tui's and watch  . I've gained enough strength and movement in my arm/shoulder to start reassembling the cab over the past month and have it about 90% complete (interior, dash, seats and all that shit in, doors and guards assembled etc) and are just starting on sticking all the firewall shit back on so its probably only a couple of weeks untill the cab is ready to get bolted back onto the chassis

Some more updates, pics of the engine and gearbox bolted into the chassis

we were able to use the captive mounts I'd had made up for the old engine a couple of years ago, they have been shifted back on the chassis about 60-70mm coz the later chev engines are a bit shorter without the flange around the rear of the block.

Image

The later engines are a 4 bolt pattern for the engine mounts instead of the old 3 bolt pattern so we bolted plates to the old engine mounts and redrilled them for the 4 bolt pattern. The truck is now setup with engine mounts that can swap between std 350's and LS engines without having to modify anything again

A couple of nights ago Skid rallyed all the boys together and they came around and picked up the cab, loaded it onto the trailer, drank all my piss and took it out to Sig's place and we mounted it back on the chassis

Been a bit of exhaust work going on in Sigs shed the past couple of days, LH side exhaust is built and RH side is built up as far as the back of the cab and stopped there coz we couldnt find the missing flange despite turning the shed upside down and searching everywhere for it   its a twin 2 1/2" system down each side exiting just behind the rear wheels, after it looking really tight to get the pipes down the inside of the chassis rails and past the PTO on one side and past the 4wd vaccum accuator and transfer case on the other side it worked out a pretty good fit.... nice work Mr Sig

Will need a small working bee in the near future to lift the cab back off to swap the gearbox out for a spare one and setup the clutch slave cylinder and sort out a few underneath bits, dtba

Looks really nice!

One question though, aren't you meant to join the twin exhausts else it will sound like two inline 4 cylinders with weird ign timing?

Balance Pipe, pretty sure you do need one, will ask my mate who used to own Midas.....

edit: Balance pipe not "needed" but will give better performance and nicer/ricer quieter sound.....

You can join them into a 2 into 1 but then it isnt a twin exhaust anymore or you can put a ballance pipe in but they still sound fine without one. The truck used to have a 2 into 1 with the 350 and my 40 series is a 3" 2 into 1 and I havent had a twin pipe system before so I thought I'd try twin pipes this time around :P

both sides are built now and only need the o2 sensor fittings put in and some mounts made up for the back. Didnt have any clearance problems around the back diff other than having to route the drivers side pipe up over the arm for the brake proportioning valve

Yep shes starting to take shape now Nibz  and the startup is starting to get closer, the looms pretty much all dissected and ready to take through the firewall to get hooked up to a fusebox and the ECU, theres still a bit of the truck enginebay wireing to sort out, new fuel lines need to be run back to the tank and the new fuel pump mounted, intake needs to be hooked up to the airbox and a few other minor engine bits to sort out and we can give it a startup :D
