KZN185 Lift

Post by Sausage »

Evening all!

Right ordering new suspension for my 185 getting OME as seems to have pretty good reviews. Just trying to confirm what shocks/springs people get for a 185? Looking at

Front N91s/881
Rear N86c/891

Any thoughts? whats the s and c stand for? and the difference between 881 and 880 springs and 890 and 891 springs?

A wee bit confused looking for about 2-3 inch lift all around with pretty level sitting.

Any infor would be great!

Thanks in advance

Hey mate,

Are those spring or shock numbers?
The front of 185s are torsion bar suspension so I'm guessing they are shock numbers?
Easiest way to find which shocks you need is look at the standard shock full extension length, and add the lift you want.
Rear springs I don't know where you would get them but the front either wind up the torsion bars or remove them and re-index them a couple of splines around.

Generally OME stuff comes in Comfort or Load carrying ratings, ie the load carrying rear springs will be stiffer.

Have you spoken to an ARB agent? If they recommend you a certain package and then it doesn't sit quite right , you have someone to go back to.

Another thing to consider is that ideally unloaded you want the rear to be higher , so that when you load it up with people , camping gear , recovery gear , tools , etc etc, it then sits flat and you don't get a bad case of saggy rear end and light steering.
