straight vs curved fan blades

after a few water temp problems at the weekend i need to change up the fans on the landy.

is there any real difference between the 2 (straight vs curved)? or should i just look at cfm numbers and go based on that...

all i can find on the net is that curved blades appear to be quieter...

with a mechanical fan on the waterpump those things run cold all day long, is it a 2F motor in it?

cfm no's andd you get what you pay for. also if they claim big no's but it draws only 10 amps but others that say similar cfm but draw 30 amp then something is up. recomend davies craig fans from BNT. not the cheapest but reliable quality

its not for the 40, its the land rover. so a 245 hemi (4l straight 6).

sorry mate just looked at the avatar and assumed it was the 40, I guess the 245 is a bit to long to squeeze a mechanical fan onto in the landy engine bay?

I have to assume you do have a good shroud on the radiator....without one even the best fan wont keep it cool.

They will both move approx the same amount of air just the curved blades are quieter and use a bit less amps.

ups about the straight bladed fans is they can be used as pullers or pushers curved ones tend to be one direction only.

This is the cooling setup on my landy. FJ40 radiator and two AEROFLOW 10" fans. 850cfm each so 1900cfm total.

With a single 14" you can get 2000cfm

They sell a 16" version. Got them from Xtremerpm.

I just changed my fans over new years and after surching found the second best option single 16inch with 2100cfm at 11.5amps.

I also found fitted a new shurad? To be very important. I used some gorilla foam to seal a couple of holes and edges. If you go for 2 fans they both need to be running if. It's the air will be drown through the fan. It radiator if that helps.

I have a pair of curved blade fans from a jaguar on the v8 defender. Have worked real good for many years now. Uses the jag shroud with slight mods as well.
What 007 says is very true. I fitted a 2 stage thermo switch about 18 months ago (87 and 93deg) and thought it would be cool to have one fan on at 87 and both at 93. Turned out to be rubbish, as 007 says when one can was running it pulled hot air from the engine bay through the stationary fan and achieved nothing until both kicked in at 93deg.
Have since modded and now run a series/parallel setup where the fans get 6volts each in series at 87 and then if temp reaches 93 they both get 12 volts (parallel). Works sweet... Nice and quiet on series/slow and have a "soft start" when they kick into high. Gotta be careful when wiring though that high and low are same direction. They pull a lot of current if you try and reverse a fan that is already running at half speed the other way :0)
