Surf Bullbar - Backyard grinder style

Post by UBZ »

Finally got around to starting to put a Bullbar together for the Surf.

Went out the back , grabbed some scrap steel I had lying about the place and whacked this together over the last couple of days.

Just tacked up at the moment till im happy and needs light surrounds ,a few more bits of pipe and gustesting .

Looks good except for the orange bits at the bottom, they may limit your approach angle

Was going great today , until my welder let me know how it felt about welding heavy steel on the winch mount and crapped out on me.

Just about done

Needs a final blaze up , then mounts for indicators , hooks , spotlights and antennas.

I wish I was that handy with a welder lol. Looks good tho.. don't think your winch mount is going to come loose any time soon :P And I thought my 10x100mm plates were overkill :P
Nothing wrong with something built from junk tho..its near free and you did it all yourself. I just cheated and paid $30 for a bullbar/side bars or tardme and chopped it up to fit around my winch mount

looks awesome mate! tucks in real nice.
may be a dumb question, but will the sides not fold towards the guard when you get rowdy with a bank or tree? or are they strengthened through the sides somehow?

hopefully the lower diagonal braces will fend off love taps and stop the bars folding in . Seems to be a popular and proven design from all the research I've done. The offset of my rims generally hold the truck out off the banks etc.

Also this is mainly my adventure touring truck , so Dosent get smashed about to hard  the factory bumper has taken A few knocks but nothing serious.

side bars will be added in the future and i have a cunning plan to incorporate a strut brace of some type to strengthen them from side impacts
