A340 Auto manualising completed
Hi All
I am after the plug that goes into the auto for the solenoids.
Its the bit attached to the loom from the vehicle body. (not the loom inside the auto)
Should be the same shaped plug for the car version too....
Want to have a play manualising the auto via the gear lever but don't want to cut into my loom at this time...
Thinking about doing it this way per attached diagram....

Yeah, manual shift is cool
Are they the same as the lexus plug? The lexus auto has an extra solenoid I'm told. I Think we might have one floating around ...I'll have a hunt.

I think they are Jeremy
Want to try it before investing in a Suprastick

...ok, will have a look this weekend and see what I can find.
Re: A340 Auto electrical connector wanted For manualising
Some of those lexus ones are 4 wire plugs

Hi Jeremy
Probably wont need one at this stage... Have a cunning plan.
Spent the avo mapping the Neutral Safety switch.
Had to pull the whole thing out and apart ......
So for future ref here is it mapped out looking at the top of the plug where the wires go.....
Plan is to wire it up on Sunday.....
Going to tap it into the wires at the ECU.. Forgot I mapped them a few years back for my original home made controller.. but gave up cause it used to reset all the time....

It could be the way I am looking at the diagram but the way I read it that will not work . In the top corner you have the solenoids in the same sequence that I have so that is right .
Selector in 1
No need to power anything ( with solenoid failure and selector in 1 only get 1st )
Selector in 2
Need to power both solenoid's with a diode on solenoid 2 .
Selector in D
As you have it , wire to solenoid 2 with O/D switch in it .
I would be interested to hear what you did for your controller and why it resets all the time ( you have mentioned a while ago ) . I made one for bush truck but they don't use it much so until I get mine up and running I will not know for sure how it goes . I initially had the thing reseting but the solenoids draw more power than they should so once I fixed that no more issues so far .
Cheers
Chris
Re: A340 Auto electrical connector wanted For manualising
The diagram is correct...
As you change from each gear one wire feed from selector changes to the next they don't combine.....
So in 1st (L) power is sent to #1 sol only.
In 2nd power is sent to #1 and #2. (via diodes)
In D (3rd) power is to #2.
and for OD or (4th) power is cut to #2.. None to either......
I understand if no power and lever in L will give me first as it goes into fail safe mode...
But at this time want to simulate normal operation....May make a bit of difference....
Time will tell.
My home made controller (help with a mate at work) was a programmable chip driving relays... It used to reset... and it was a tiptronic type setup.
If I don't like the manual setup I will be getting the suprastick...
I like the idea of a fully auto mode where I can adjust the shift points.
And also a tiptronic mode.....
Plan to wire her up today and go for a spin this avo or Monday....

Re: A340 Auto electrical connector wanted For manualising
See , cup of coffee later and all becomes clear
. Said I was looking at it funny .
People have said to power the solenoids via relays as you will eventually burn out the selector switch . I have not put relays in the ones I have done so far and touch wood have not had any trouble . Just passing what I was told .
Cheers

Re: A340 Auto electrical connector wanted For manualising
The selector switch has good contacts inside...
I have seen them heheheh so as you have done going to drive them without relays.
The relays only add more delay time to the shifts.....

Re: A340 Auto electrical connector wanted For manualising
Its done !
Had to put a wire in the plug location for D as it didnt have one
Lucky for me I had an old plug so removed connector from it and fitted it into selector plug.
Had a wee drive around the block... Feels better..
Auto fluid needs changing.... getting a bit dark....
Still to put it all back together !.
Used some Molex ?? plugs from an old PC so one can connect it back to factory easily....
Oh and I filed away the gate in the lever so you don't have to push the button in to get it to go into L....
Job for Monday Am....Tidy it up.....
Gunna have a beer...!!!!

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
Well done! It definatly makes them a better truck imo, how did you find the changes, reckon mine changes nicer now than when fully auto.

Softroader VW Amarok nowadays....

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
Yup its sharper....In the gear changes.. Just need to remember
My trans fluid is a bit old....So will change it soon....
So that will make a difference too.....
I will have to train my WOF man.....

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
I have been approached by a few members about what I did to manualise my auto.
Attached is a link to a file which I made up and explains the install I did...
Enjoy.

hi Calvin,
just a quick question here. You have an A340E in your KZJ78? Mine is A343F. How so?
thx

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
It's the same auto. Number changes depending on what transfer case is attached to it / combo. Mine is an A343f too from memory but the base model is the A340e which is used in numerous vehicles including other brands.

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
thanks, understood.
is this setup bypassing the torque converter as well?
do you have to shift to Neutral when about to stop?

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
Torque converter is activated by a switch which you turn on and off. No you don't need to flick into neutral when stopping. It still behaves like a normal auto. Just coast to a stop or brake. Just need to remember to select 1st again or you will start off in last gear selected.

Re: A340 Auto manualising completed
when you are slowing down to come to a stop, you want to unlock the convertor, and it will come to a normal stop. With the convertor locked, it starts to shudder and tries to stall, as it is like braking whilst in a high gear and not putting the clutch in.
