WTB 4.875 ratio Terrano/Navara Front diff

Post by sibainmud »

As I have just fitted my last spare front diff, I'm in need of another (just in case)
Would prefer in or near Auckland as freight would be killer.
Side note;
39 tooth ring gear with 8 tooth pinion.

Thanks.
Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Bumpty bump!
I have now destroyed my last front diff.
I will spread the drag net further. i will travel or get ORE courier to deliver.
Any D21 Terrano or Navara, CA48 or HG48 diff will do.

What part of the diff have you destroyed? I've got front diff parts, but only a crownwheel in 4.8 ration (no pinion)

I'll take that crown wheel. They ideally need to be a matched set but i know I have three pinions still installed in their housings. (Same pinion for most ratios)
I seem to blow teeth off the crown, right foot has a lot to do with it :oops:
As I know when they go bang, first thing is to disconnect the hubs and take it out of 4wd so minimal damage occurs to the pinon gear :wink:
I'm sure i can build a good one from the bits. i will need to pull out the bearing blue and spend a bit of time shimming :roll:

I can arrange some $$ for shipping.

Will give em a call in the morning. Last time we spoke about it you thought they didn't have any 4.8's.
Thanks for that Steve.

Gotta be cheaper than the rip off merchant in Kelston....quoted $450.....f#$&'n burglar :x
Here's the question I posted on the auction;
Hi There, Would you have a front diff (4.875:1 ratio) (HG48 or CA48). If so how much? Cheers, Simon. 11:28 pm, Tue 31 Jan

$450 7:11 pm, Wed 1 Feb

You must be joking!!!! Last one I got a few years ago from the most expensive 4X4 wrecker, only cost me $300. I have bought matched pairs of diffs for $100 for both front and rear. I have a perfect 4.6 ratio here (more common and popular) do you want to swap. I have done business with you before and even recommended you to others in my 4X4 club. Won't be doing that again! 9:58 pm, Wed 1 Feb

Basstard :!:

Hey man, just a thought usually stripping teeth off crown wheels is due to the housing flexing under load and reducing tooth contact area. It will be detrimental if you had a fulltime 4x4 and doing mileage but given that you might only cover a few thousand kms off road a year it shouldn't be a problem. When you rebuild the diff, put much more preload on the side bearings to help stop the crown gear moving away from the pinion gear under load if you know what I mean. (Rock crawler guys usually do it)

That's my exact thoughts too. More mesh (don't care about a bit of noise), more preload on the main bearings. As I have been swapping out whole assemblies, they come from the factory set up like that. The last one was from a later model (95) wide body too.
Thanks for the suggestion Glen.

Bumpty bump bump (happened to be the noise it made too :lol: :lol: )
I'm still looking. If nothing turns up, I will have to fit a pair of 4.625's before Wednesday next week :x It will suck having to remove the rear air-locker and put in a tight LSD :(
Surely some knows of a farked old Navara sitting somewhere in the upper north island :P
