new in wellington

Post by adamigo »

hey guys, i'm looking for an DOC hut or lodge I can access by 4x4 for a family trip somewhere in the Wairarapa. Not looking for a super serious off road experience but I have a 08 ford ranger 4x4 in case there's a river crossing/washout involved etc.

i'm just wondering if you have any suggestions of off road places you've been to that might be suitable for a family trip.

cheers

check out Takapari Road, 40 mins out of Ashhurst in the manawatu, nice drive on a good sunny day , can see Kapiti , Taranaki, Ruapehu etc, from Ashhurst to A Frame hut is about a 3hr trip return just cruising along , don't go off the track if you are going by yourself and don't go past the hut unless experienced and more than 2 trucks with you, other than that its an easy trip but worth the drive.

I'm Greg, I live in Ashhurst , 0272560470 if you are passing through

Might add that the hut isn't a great place to stay , unless you're caught out in the weather up there , then it's a 5 star motel
Yea, though I drive through the valley of death (and it's mudbogs), I shall fear no trail;for tho art modified is my rig, and thy lift kit and lockers they comfort me. Amen
