just head out on the next ORE training day, or come along on some of the trips out to the waimak or river trips. Will need to get some rated tow hooks etc fitted if you dont have them and just get out and join in the fun. keep an eye on the trip planning forum. lots of newbies and people just keen to do some 4wheeling always going on them.

If you want a piece of paper to say you can do it, there is a school run through the polytech on the westcoast. For about $100, you get two days of 4wd tuition.

Here are two sites worth a look:-
http://www.4wdlyford.homestead.com/index.html
This is Mt Lyford Training Centre. They do run training and worth having a look at the site.
http://www.yellow.co.nz/site/malcomlangley/
This is the Westcoast site that I think Al Bundy refered to worth a look too.

However Mike is right off roading is really not a single vehicle activity always better to go out in a group so as Mike suggests come out on an ORE trip.
