Hilux D4D 270VX Dbl Cab UK import -rust

Post by Moonrunner »

Hi All,
Boy - am I happy I found this forum :P
I've just imported my beloved '04 ute from the UK and found it's too corroded for entry certifying. It's only done 55k miles so the engine and bodywork are good but the chassis is corroded to hell (guy before me must've launched his boat with it?). I'm told I need to get it a new chassis. Its the KDN165R-PRMSYW model and I wonder what suitable used models would fit the bill here in NZ? I'd be grateful for any help/advice and (if poss. as I'm no mechanic) what kind of job difficulty/cost am I setting myself up for if I try and switch the chassis?
Cheers

Hey Mate, Welcome to the forum

the hilux your looking for is a sr5 double cab made in the early 2000's
im pretty sure the only diffrence is the engine (ours was a 1kzte 3.0 litre and the european one was a 2.5 d4d i think)
so you might want to check the compatability of engine/gearbox mounts etc.

apart from that i dont know much about the newer hilux's but im sure someone else will have the info you need

dont forget to add your location, you can do it by clicking on private messages on the right side of screen on the homepage, then into the profile section

Cheers Sam

A prado Kzj71 or 78 chassis may be an option as well...
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

Turners damaged vehicle auctions here http://www.turners.co.nz/Pages/Home.aspx
Have late model damaged vehicles and might be worth considering for getting a chassis. Although something from a vehicle that has been already written off may add to the complications as far as legalities and costs.

Hi
I was thinking about this the other night and if you can pick up a nz registered chassis (still a live rego and not lapsed over time), you might be able to swap your parts onto that and only need to get a certification plate for a body swap (around $600) instead of putting the car through compliance where they are a bit more anal with the rules etc

Just a thought i had which could help in the long run

Not all the vehicles in the damaged auctions have dead rego's.

I've got a Falcon wagon written off by TOWER and an idiot driver, but as a third party the vehicle is still mine, so it hasn't been deregistered, and will be sold with rego and wof!
(And a few bent panels).
