Cheap Snorkels On Trademe

Post by zephyrheaven »

Are they as bad as the press on Safari's own site suggests?
My own 80 doesnt sit out in the Kimberly Desert as such - Chch to be exact, so I doubt these 'extreme UV' issues will be much of an issue to the plastic - lets face facts, 98% of all boy racer cars are made from plastic & they seem to hold together with bubblegum & zipties!

I dont take it swimming every weekend - with what it owes me now Im not interested in the tough tracks anymore
I want a snorkel for cooler intake / those times we are miles away & have no choice but to 'swim' / cleaner air up high following mates 4ourbies on constant gravel roads

Advice appreciated

Im sure some people (like me for a few things) need labels on their purchases - but for the savings on these, not bothered

Cheers, James

Got one on my jeep jk i think it is very good. Needs a bit of silicon where it enter's the air intake it also provides good protection for truck. Cutting the bonet was scary Measure about 2000 times and cut once.
Latest mod, pin stripes, hit the same branch I did on the way in on the way out.

Fitted an offroader one to my 80 two weeks ago.
A word of caution. The template is not correct.
I had figured this out before I drilled holes and cut the hole fortunately.
Other than that I am pleased with it. I gave it a good bashing last weekend in the bush and it handled everything without breaking or fracturing. Even the air ram takes a good bashing without breaking.

I got one for my 80 a few weeks ago too...

Like tgaguy1 said, the template is very wrong, the hole is in the COMPLETELY wrong place, but just closed my eyes and got busy with the grinder lol. But other than that, it looks good, does what it was made for and handles the punishment so far..... :)

x2

I'm not to schooled up on UV light but was interested to discover we even have to get better quality watch straps here (for non el cheapo watches) because the standard plastic ones from Europe/Japan/China break down too fast and give the brands a bad name.

I'd say they'd be alright until they'd been on a while then get a love tap leaving a gaping hole. Whether that risk is worth the price or not is up to the individual.

Airflow ones are still good value at $300 and something odd I reckon. Come with an accurate template and longtime non internet based NZ suppliers who will back them up.

This the snorkel i have on my Surf and i can't fault it. http://www.snorkels.com.au/p/964652/air ... -1996.html

The template was good and very accurate. I would recommend to all.
The ARB guys seem to give it a bashing but i think that is due to the price being so much less than the safari.

There's a guy on Trade that sells them out of Christchurch. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listin ... ber=540306)Mine cost NZD 418 including delivery, which is cheaper than the AUD prices quoted on the website.

Well I bought one off offroader for $200 delivered to my door and the template was perfect. About 6 years ago i bought one off ARB and it is still great on my other Pajero.

Yes I would have liked a Safari but this one was 1/4th the price, the vehicle is almost always garaged day and night.

It was slightly taller than the Safari on the upright which the snorkel hat attaches to so I cut it shorter with the grinder and then tried to destroy the bit I cut off, it was tough. In fact it came with stainless bolts that the Safari doesn't, had to replace them on the Safari to stop rusting the A pillar.

Normally I like to support the guys that put the r & d in but in this case it was simply to big of a difference.
