buying a ute, please help

Post by GotFlex »

hey guys
im in the process of selling my truck so i can buy a later model ute ffor hunting and a little 4x4ing,
whats everyones opinion, i would prefer to get a 2004 hilux (last of the good model) but see they are still sitting around 20-25k with the 1kzte,
however i for 15-18k i could get a ford courier of the same year and still have change to put into mods ( tires, snorkle bullbar..)

are the fords any good? whats peoples thoughts on these utes?

thanks in advanced

i say stick to the tried and trusted, theres a reason why the hillux is nearly 10 g more than a courier.........

I own a 2006 Mazda Bounty which is pretty much the same as the ford courier. Its a great truck and if its been serviced regularly (and you keep it up) there is nothing wrong with them. Don't get me wrong, I like hiluxes too but I was the same as you and not prepared to spend 10k more. Cheers

the extra you'll pay for a lux is relative coz it'll retain its resale value unlike most of the other 4x4 utes will over time

Resale value might be true but if you haven't got the extra 10k at the time of purchase, resale value isn't really a factor.

I have four mates with couriers and they have all had issues. There low as hell crack heads do gearboxs front diffs and cvs.

Person opinon is if they have a good resale they must be a good truck

Definitely agree that Hiluxes are a good truck, best selling utes for years cant be wrong.

I guess my point really in the first post was that the Bounty (aka Courier) we bought is a great truck and when we purchased it, my brother in law who is a mechanic said that they are a good truck as long as they have been serviced throughout their life, and the servicing is kept up to date.

Having said that its not modified and we dont intend to use if for serious offroad work, maybe some beach stuff, so if modification is the way then yes, the poster should probably look at something like a lux.

Cheers

I always owned Hiluxs until 4 years ago when i decided i was tired of being reamed up the backside on price just because it had 'TOYOTA' on the tailgate, so i bought a Ford courier, no issues at all, like you said earlier, wish id switched earlier and saved 10k every ute i bought!
It is relative though, you pay more for the Hilux so you have to get more in resale or who would buy them?
If you dont have the cash buy a cheaper brand for a few years then upgrade to a shagger if you feel left out

holden rodeo/ Isuzu something??? are supposed to be pretty good value
especialy when talking double cabs. tho your not. double cab hiluxs are moon beans. wouldnt do mazda ford myself. but they do go well. pay when you buy it or pay when you have to fix it. which you may not have to do .

haha from napier? Small world!
give him shit,

im thinking of getting a ln106 now, half the price again and a lot left over change for mods!
the price for these newer ute parts is disgusting, just had a mate do his clutch in a D40 Navara, cost 3k!

now that sounds like a good idea, theres some real tidy lowish ks ones around the 12 ish k mark, then youd get solid axle too (if you wanted) and resonably priced replacement parts
