New Offroad and Fishing Vehicle

Post by pouw »

Hey guys, you might remember I posted a request for a new 4wd about 3 weeks ago. Well last week I flew to Napier to look at and purchase a truck - a 1990 Pajero V6 3.0L Manual with 230,000 km on the clock.

After driving it I liked it, always had a soft spot for Pajeros, most fun I ever had in a truck was my old 1986 2.5 diesel Pajero banger. Smoked more then I did but was just as persistant as me.

So after $2700 exchanged hands with 3 months rego and 3 months warrant and a recent full service, and cambelt replaced 40,000km ago I drove it home and it didn't let me down.

It is pretty standard apart from a spring lift at the back, torsions probably wound at the front, and front and rear recovery hooks + snorkel. So this weekend I set to work.

This weekend I did the following:
Installed USB Stereo - Panasonic ($126.00)
Installed UHF Radio - Uniden 7700 ($299.00)
Car seat covers, mud mats, new gear knob and rear rubber matt ($100.00)
Fixed the tool box to the back using existing seatbelt bolts through the bottom.
Installed Fire Extinguisher (Existing)
Painted and installed roof racks.
Modified existing Fishing Rod holder and mounted it.
Fixed rear speaker - dodgy mount and wiring.

So all up, including a flight to Napier and gas to get her home - total spend to date is $3300 give or take. Just purchased some night stalker lamps to replace the foggys on the front.

Loving it so far, just need some muddies and she is pretty much done - FOR NOW.

Bridgestone Dueler MT/Rs on the truck and a set of nite stalker spotlights.

Remaining Mods:
12v Socket in the back of the truck and a light for night fishing.
Possibly mount the portable air compressor (with wiring to the battery) in the back for ease of use.
Winch if I can get a compatible bullbar for a reasonable price.
Rear Bar
Sill protectors/Rock Slider.

Totally agree, they have that kind of rough and ready square 4wd look.
