problems getting oil preasure

Post by navara66 »

I have just installed a 94 td27t into my navara
it only has 100k onit but has been sitting for a few years.
Now i carn't get oil preasure,

I have tried
pre filling filter
over filling
using a 300ml plunger to force oil up the oil filter track
Cranking motor

We took off the oil line to the turbo and there is no oil comming out while cranking.

Any other ideas ???

we did start the motor by mistake but only let it run for 3-4 seconds, we hadn't primed the pump so didn't think it would have started. after that we unpluged the fuel cut. yip just spinning on the started the 620 cca batery is almost flat.

TD are not quick on getting oilpresure. Im thinking you are not getting enough spin out of starter motor to get oil presure up. I would be inclined to start it. you have no reason to think the engine has a proplem other than your starter motor no oil test.

i would pull the glows out and squirt a bit of oil down it. give the rings a bit of lube and make it easier to crank over.

i wonder if your poured a bit of oil down the turbo connection then put some compressed air on it. that would pump a bit of oil to the bearings.

You have to drop the front diff to take sump off to check oil pickup.

I spent a few hours this morning trying to get oil preasure. I took out the glow plugs and cranked at a faster pace with no luck.
I also pumped another 600ml of oil up the turbo feed from the block with no luck. There must be almost 9l of oil in the block with about 2l pumped into the oil gallerys.

if you have pumped oil down the galleries by hand then its probably reasonably safe to fire it up and see if its pumping oil at all.

are you using a idiot light as a indicator, a mechinical gauge or electric gauge? , you may have oil pressure but have a crook gauge. if you leave the oil feed to the turbo off does oil come out when you crank i over?

Just the dash light but when cranking there is no oil comming out the turbo feed or the alt feed you should get 10psi just by cranking.

10 psi at idle maybe. idle being about 5-700 rpm. if you can get that out of a starter motor you would have to be feeding it like a 100 volts in which case watch out for the flying bits. and the smoke lol. honestly you have gone above and beyond the call of duty. most engine after sitting a few days have no oil pressure for the first 2 or 3 seconds . hence 80% of wear is at start up. I wouldnt be concerned if yours took 6 or seven seconds at fast idle to start to get up oil pressure.start from cold my mint td42 take about 3 seconds to getup oil presure at which point you will notice the engine get a little bit quieter. good for your concern and care but you gonna give ya self ulcers over thinking things :P  A dash light goes out quick at like 2 psi but a gauge takes guite a bit more to register anything

Started motor 3 time for 4-5 sec with alt feed off, no oil at all will have to check the relief valves to see if they are stuck open. This is what turbo and diesel said to check after that the oil pump.

oh so you have started it. sounds like you have a proplem. Noshit I hear you say.lol. dont know td oil drive set up enough to comment. it is weird , never heard of that sort of problem before. 2 thing I can think of worth checking. remove filter is there a rubber anti drain back I think it is. rubber diaphragm, in filter entrance. see if that moves freely. doubt that could stop flow any way. but hey clutching at straws here. in filter housing on block there will be a ballbearing pressure relive valve there. see that it moves freely against spring presure. when you pushed oil up pump pick up did it go in freely or pour straight back out. I think your heading for the oil pump. Well done spotting this. most of us would of fired it up and wait for the rattling to stop which in your case it may not of.

I don't wana sound like a dick, but how about you start and leave running for a whole minute?
My td27t takes a good 5+ sec to get enough pressure to turn off factory light (~5psi?), and thats after only 9hrs parked at work. Takes more like 10sec+ when in morning, then even more on real cold winter mornings...
It won't hurt anything running with no load and no oil pressure for a short time, and its a damn sight easier than stripping engine to find nothing wrong...

My two cents anyways...

all sorted, we ended up taking off the oil block and pumped oil down to the oil pump.
