WTD: yn60 surf

Post by twistee »

Hi All,
Been living in the countryside for a couple of years now and have finally been bitten by the 4WD bug. I don't have a huge budget so have written off buying a single cab hilux and then found the surf as a great all rounder and cheaper too :-). I'm an ex mechanic so typically would not be fussed about taking on a project truck, but the wife says I already have a project car and she is probably right - so I'm not ruling anything out but would prefer a complete truck vs a rebuild project.
Petrol or diesel , not fused , I'm more concerned that the chassis and body are rust free , SFA or independent - but I'm not going to be hard core 4WDing, so either if fine.
I'm sure long term I will get into the thick of it , a friend of mine competes in winch comps so i m keen to learn as I go.
Eventually the idea is to do a chassis up rebuild of a surf , a good lift kit , 33" rubber , locka diffs and then turn my attention to something I know about - the engine. While I don't expect huge things from a 2lt , I can make one more reliable and responsive without breaking the bank.
Probably should have put this in an intro thread somewhere else - sorry. Let me know what you've got
Thanks
Colin.

Thanks for the offer but I'm off to look at a complete surf today, fingers crossed it's not a rustaholic.

In Waiuku, I'm the same guy that asked you about yours on TM. But really I need a running ute , as much I would love to finish off your project - having read everything that you have done with it , I already have a project car that is 99% done. Cant do two projects at once, plus I have a limited budget for a ute and yours maxes it out. I am however very keen on a set of wide front fenders from you if you are prepared to make them or part with the set you have already. It's probably a push just to buy the body right now just to get the front fenders.
