Been living in the countryside for a couple of years now and have finally been bitten by the 4WD bug. I don't have a huge budget so have written off buying a single cab hilux and then found the surf as a great all rounder and cheaper too

I'm an ex mechanic so typically would not be fussed about taking on a project truck, but the wife says I already have a project car and she is probably right - so I'm not ruling anything out but would prefer a complete truck vs a rebuild project.Petrol or diesel , not fused , I'm more concerned that the chassis and body are rust free , SFA or independent - but I'm not going to be hard core 4WDing, so either if fine.
I'm sure long term I will get into the thick of it , a friend of mine competes in winch comps so i m keen to learn as I go.
Eventually the idea is to do a chassis up rebuild of a surf , a good lift kit , 33" rubber , locka diffs and then turn my attention to something I know about - the engine. While I don't expect huge things from a 2lt , I can make one more reliable and responsive without breaking the bank.
