Re: PTO direction on cruiser
that would mean that you will be loading the reverse side of the worm and gear, as well as, it would mean "winch in" using reverse gear and "winch out" using drive forward gears (unless you already have a reversable pto drive unit)
why do you want to change it??
why do you want to change it??
Re: PTO direction on cruiser
doing a mid mount pto and I want to place the pto up into the cavity on the floor of my 73 cruiser, which means the cable will come under the drum instead of on top.I think the worm gear loading is the same either derection ( ?).Reading other threads an guys just lower the drum an have the cable coming in on top like normal. Cheers

Re: PTO direction on cruiser
ah now i understand
i would say as long as rotation is the same then it would not matter
have a look at kbushnz install topic as he did a similar set up and working mint by the sounds of it
if i can find it i will load the link up

I thought the same also, but decided to try and keep it factory.
I mocked up several different ways and seeing which was best for drive shaft angles, rope angles, freespool mechanism etc etc and ended up with what I got.
I also only had non reversible pto unit...
And when I positioned the winch in pretty much the same factory way I had to end for end the pto shaft / gear inside and also the winch worm and its big bronze gear...
Wanted it to have the same loads on it as if it was in the front of the truck.
In the end it all worked out.
In my case going back and up into that cavity where the rear seats fitted meant it would be awfully close to the rear diff....And the rear coils got in the way...
Leaf sprung vehicles may have a bit more room....
At this time its working fine, but haven't really given a big workout.
Just need to tweak the shear pin size....
And listen and back off...Oh it helps to put the winch rope and tree protector in the right place and tree

I would say the Easter event will be its big test....Lucky I have the electric as backup....
Cheers Calvin

yes I have been following your thread,I have enough room for what I would like to do ,rerooting the rope is a major from drum to front of truck. Cheers for your replys.
