surf R&M
started last weekend but have redone the brushes in the alternator and the bearing. fitted a new cambelt water pump etc... also got the radiator and engine a good flush for the coolant to sit in nicely.. back brakes on the go next weekend... starting to get costly
all part of the fun and learning tho suppose... also any opinions on keeping or getting rid of the second battery in the surfs?? would be much apreciated

Re: surf R&M
unless you running winches or in snow country, the 2nd battery is not needed.
the surfs do not draw enough power to require it, other vehicles with the same engine often only have one battery.
the parallel setup is not good. having one battery run the starter and the other everything else screws up the charging and can cause battery failure.
and when one battery fails it generally takes out the other one.
i converted mine and have not had any problems starting.
if your running fridges, big lights etc then keep the 2nd but run it as an axillary battery just for those items.

yeah got two lights but hardly use those any way.. so do i take out the loom in between?? the battery would go flat then wouldn't it?? have been thinking about putting in a water proof box and puting a splice distributor in but will look into it a bit better
