Right, well... what a staggeringly fun day today - out with a few club mates patrolling at Woodhill 4x4 park (read as: larking about and playing in mud) doing all manner of things, playing with recovery gear and other such stuff that 4 lads and their trucks are want to do.
BANG.
Yeah, that pricked my ears up too.
To be fair, the clicking on both left and right lock had me pretty concerned for the rest of the day too.
Quite possibly, the second BANG at the end of the day could have waited for another day, but no... it happened prematurely and now I have a 2 wheel drive TD27.
Which brings me to a couple of questions.
How much can one expect to pay for a couple of CVs? (One is fairly skint and has a fishing trip coming up in a couple of weeks.)
In contrast to your average front wheel drive rice burner, how much more/less difficult are they to replace in the drive way?
I thank you for your input, and will accept all mocking, ribbing and donations now.

Re: CV query
I just replaced both CV's in the old mans D21 today. I cant remember what the cost was for the CV's, but Im sure someone on here can sort you out a good deal with Repco or BNT or something.
You could do it in your drive, so long as you have all the right tools. You will still have to take the shafts out. I just unbolted them from where they bolt onto the diff housing flange thingie. Luckily they were the sealed end type. Just had a weee issue with the auto hubs...... But thats was all good, as he doesn't use it for 4 wheeling.

Re: CV query
Well, approx. $260 later...
Turns out it was easier than I thought, managed to remove the entire hub in about 10 minutes, and persuade the old joint off with a copper mallet leaving the axles in place.
One was absolutely munted, the bearing case was in about 8 pieces, while the other was in better shape with just a small chunk missing.
Looks like the joints have been removed before, as evidenced by the flat spots on the joint edge from some gorilla smacking the crud out of it before I owned it, so quite suprised they've lasted this long!

Good effort getting them all sorted. People have always said terrano cv's are nto the best, but i absolutely abused mine on 31's, and then 33's, and they didnt even start to click.
Re: CV query
I pay about $20 a complete shaft with inner and outer fully assembled. Sitting on a few spares too. I have 5 bolt inners and 6 bolt inners too with both 27 spline and 33 spline outers
I have only destroyed 1 set in the years of abusing D21's
Good work on the repair (and the damage) just hope it's not the front diff too
Cheers,

I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Hey mate, you got someone that can get trade price through BnT? Cos i priced them up a month or two ago, there are 2 different ones for a td27 d21, ranging from 150-200 if i remember correctly.

Re: CV query
I thought I'd have a laugh and tried repco... they have two types, one $295 and the other $297!
Found a place in Otahuhu that has both for $165.
Going to try Partmaster tomorrow, still get trade there so hopefully it'll be a bit better again...
