Am looking at buying a winch fairlead for my 70 series pto and am tossing up between two models, with the main difference being size.
What are your recommendations in regards to the fairlead slot hole size compared to winch drum length?(e.g. fairlead should be 40mm shorter)
My winch drum is 190mm wide on the inside and the factory roller fairlead is 177mm.
The way I see it, on the one hand having a fairlead the same size as the drum means I can spool on the rope nice and evenly, but on the other hand having a smaller fairlead will stop the rope riding up the side of the drum and potentially jumping off on a long pull.

yep you want the fairlead narrower to pull the layer back accross to avoid the rope bunching up on the side of the drum
