Grand Vitara transfer

Gidday Guys. What could be the problem if a Grand Vitara transfer lever can't be shifted? Apparently hasn't been used in 4WD for ages. I know the SJ's problem where the shifter stuck due to worn shifter sheet. Would this the same thing?? Thanx in advance.

Silly question but have you tried putting the gearbox in neutral before shifting the transfer lever? I know mine will only move into low in neutral.

Ta Churchill. I haven't seen the car and not familiar with them. Was told the lever won't shift at all, not from 2wd to 4wd or into low. Rob
