pajero engine conversion
HI everyone Ive got a tired 2.8 Pajero with a blown head gasket and Im thinking bout repowering with a V8 has anyone heard of any conversion kits I have heard of the commodore V6 one from Marks but thats bout it. Ive heard scary stories bout the pajero diesels

Do you think its worth it?
Wouldnt you be better patching up the Diesel or replacing it with the same motor then selling it and getting something that would be worth a V8.
Nothing against pajeros but its still ifs suspension in the front. It would be better to spend the money that it would cost to put a V8 in (lots of it!) on a Hi Lux or landcruiser or safari or something with better suspension.
But if you really want to then it would need to be something small like a Lexus V8, and you will need very deep pockets.

Welcome.
V6 kits are available for the 1st gen Pajero's but not the 2nd gen. Sure it could be done but it'd be an awful lot cheaper to put a new head gasket in it.
SO put a new head gasket on it and change the Timing chain while your in there...... (my 2c)
If you want petrol power then why not put a DOHC 3.5 V6 into it?
I have heard that the Toyota/Lexus motor's are a little wide for a 2nd gen Pajero but anything is possible($$$$), there was a 2nd gen LWB on Trade me a week or so back with a 308 Commodore Motor in it.
Much of the troubles from Mitsi diesels stems around getting them hot either in the past or current.

This is the best Idea yet, STD GTO puts out 210 BHP minimum, not too bad for 3.0L and has huge torque, I had one in a Mitzi Diamante, sold it for the Twuck, damn thing pulled like the Vienna Boys Choir from about 1100rpm. very robust.
Gidday Jab
I've looked into this (cheak out my avitar
) first off a lexus will fit
just!! also heard of a 308 conversion and seen a guy who has done a 302 windser ... just a couple of things to consider before you do... the gearbox is shit it is a galant car box internals stuck into a slightly heavyer housing, you will kill it with any new motor!! also the box has a nasty driveshaft seal setup it seals to the universal jiont and this joint is the adjuster that slides back a forth to lengthen the driveshafts, what this means is if you break a driveshaft you can not drive from there as there is nothing to stop that sliding universal from slidding right out of the gearbox and all your gearbox oil draining out!!!
If you are going to do this repower ditch the box, I'm going to biff a cruiser box in mine as they are nice and short and strong!!
Another issue to consider is the torsion bars at the front they will probably have to be replaceed if you put a bigger motor in especially if you want any sort of lift from them
hope this hasn't put you off I'm gona do this to mine and take it a bit further.... when I've got time
Cheers Reece

HI Reece,
from the looks of your avatar yours is a 1st generation one.....
I'm led to believe the 2nd gen had a slightly narrower engine bay but I may be wrong. The 2nd gen has a much bigger/stronger gearbox, especially since it was a 2.8 Deisel jab was talking about, those and the 3.5 V6's had heavier boxes again..
I look forward to your V8 build.

Mine was a 2.8  I'm pretty certain the 2.8 gen 2 was the same box .... the V6 box was a big improvement and from what I've read on the american sites the auto was the box to get, strongest of the lot.... its just that its an auto
Yes you are right the gen 1 has a bigger bay
As for the Wanker build.... got to get the Lemon done first
Cheers Reece
