i dont beleive in car alarms organised theives can get pasdt them easy as 1 2 3 im thinkn about getting a quick release steering wheel (if thats legal) and taking my gear stick out each time its on the street or parked up at night.
The ##### are taking the fun of owning a decent vehicle away im keen to fight back they have it too bloody easy

dont put what brand of alarm sticker you have so they dont come prepared..... same with the flashing lights that scream "i have an alarm" have it all stelth..... that way if they are unsupecting of an alarm it may catch them off-guard??

I was having a yarn to a Rangiora cop about this the other day and he was telling me that they are going to war torn countries. 4 x Hiluxs = 40ft container??
Maybe 3 news is a better place to be keeping an eye on?

Don't know if I posted this before but my mates van was stolen and they rang a few weeks later to say they'd found the guy due to finding the plates at a scrap yard after one of those raids or something.

Anyway, they said they were going to raid his place soon and would keep in touch, you know in case any of his 4k worth of contents were in there (he was moving flat the at time).

Mate rang back 2 weeks later, officer in charge had changed, nothing had happened, all good they were busy.

Same thing again a while after that.

After the third officer change and no progress my mate got a bit upset that nothing had been done and this bastard was probably still out ripping other people off. After asking why nothing had been done about it and saying it wasn't really good enough when they had all the info they needed, he got a massive lecture from the cop about how he must think his 'piece of crap stolen van must be more important than the rape victims that I'm dealing with everyday' and hung up.

2 or so days later in The Press there was an article about how Chch was very quiet and crime was at an all time low for the first time in a while

I know they sometimes struggle with staff (although mainly in Auckland?), but if the quality of police work from the system and some officers is this crap surely it is time to do something about it? They seem to have the man power to have enough officers to blockade boy racers in at NIGHT time for a few hours but not to raid the property of a known car thief?

if they stopped parking up dishing out tickets for stupid shit and stop revenue collecting and actually focus on the thefts they may get somewhere, they have a police unit specifically set up to tackle boy racers but where is the unit to tackle car theft? car theft is way more important than boy racers and revenue collecting specially at the rate vehicles are just disappearing with no trace and no in in the police wants to do anything. when my car got nicked all i got told was we'll keep a eye out

x2 for no flashin lights, used to have a ke30 corolla had an alarm and 2 kill switches. Had to park it up drive and went out n brought solex locks for it... talked to a friend and it was raised, why let them fk your door lock and door screwdrivin it when they can open it with a fork, then they can poo their pants once they open it with a fork and the alarm goes off. Unless they reach "under" the dash and another place it... wont drive. This car was regularly "unlocked" but when I raced out with a 6pound hammer, not a creature was stirrin - not even a mouse.

Anyone who signed up for local alerts for the NZ Police might be astounded at the incredible amount of elderly people going missing in Chch these days - some of them for half an hour - thats 30 minutes people!!!???

But not a single stolen vehicle report ever - Oh apart from that plastic Chev Mike Pero own/ed a few years ago - that was an All Points Bulletin - Oh & the Porsche owned by you know who - thats newsworthy

I agree with a car alarm without the blinking lights. I used to own a 1978 toyota corolla that was desirable to young people.

For a while I had to park it up a short driveway on a busy street. I purchased "solex" aftermarket locks to fit in it.

My friend mentioned that if I fitted these new locks the louts that attempted to steal my car previously would wreck my new locks and the door they were attached to - with their tool of choice (a screwdriver), when the origional lock can be worked with a shaped fork (2 prongs bent in) and door opened with no damage to door or lock.

My car had an alarm without a flashing light so once said doors were open there was a large and surprising noise emited from it scaring the crap out of those trying to take possession of things that werent theirs..

There were also additional switches to slow down the vehicles removal.

The alarm went off on a semi regular basis but there was no damage to the car when I arrived outside each time with a medium sized persuasion device to discouraged these activites. The door was open and unlocked but nobody to be seen.

Hope it makes sense.

agree with that. A firend got so sick of replacing door pannels and windows from them getting destroyed that he never ever locks his doors these days. So long as you leave nothing worth taking inside the car/truck and your confident in your measures tp stop the whole thing getting taken its win win.

Careful with cops they have been hammered just like the health system where they have to report all activity so if they can keep you of the books then its win for them as chances are they wont solve your case. Its no different to the way the health system doctors the books by shipping people out asap which looks great when they have to report the average time that someone came into the emergency and when they were dismissed. There are not figures if they were dismissed with a "cure". Cops are in the same boat and have been hammered by the govt so these days they try and keep cases that they no will not be solved off the books. The best thing you can do when you report a crime like car theft is ask for a ref number and follow up with it. If you dont ask they tend to "forget" to put it into the system so that it doesnt add to the unsolved crimes percentage that they HAVE to report on.

guess that depends if you have insurance. If someone who really knows what they are doing has a go they will take it if the doors are locked or not. It just stops every 12 years old stuffing ya locks to steal the loose change that you dont even have in your glovebox.
