Where is this one...?

Dodger Hut up the Hopkins. Think it's the last proper hut but there are 2 bivouacs further up from memory.

Trip is pretty much full now unless we want to sit and cook outside 8) so now that we have dates let me know if you can't make it so someone else can fill the gap and start making their own plans please.

Those that have already said they are keen I'm sure we can make room for you but everyone needs warm clothing as there will bo to many people to all sit in the hut at once I'd say. It was pretty mild outside despite the snow last year.

North island crew let me know your plans as you sort them out. I'll probably be coming down from Picton again and spend Thurs night in Chch. Will arrive a bit earlier as I won't only have driven from Auckland a few hours earlier this year

If you need a place to crash yell out here and one someone will help you out.

It is too... Yep, it is as far as you can drive without some serious tyres, if you thought it was boulder hopping to there it gets way worse.

Was up there between christmas and new years, it'd be a hell of a trip in the snow

Yeah gave it a little nudge. Jeremy could have made it through, I would have struggled.

Was ok in the snow last year. Only really deep in some parts though.

Nice place to go for Christmas. Many up there?

Chuck me on ya list. Will have one or 2 kids (9 & 11), we're all sorted for snow camp, no hut no problem.

Nah, not good enough. Just put an extra blouse on! :P

In all seriousness, a thermal layer, hat and jacket and you'll be right. Good clothing makes all the difference.

There is a crossing or 3 on the way up but if it is the same as last year you'll be well high enough. If not, we can just tow you across while you keep your feet dry.

Yeah mate surprised by how many are keen this year.
It's a litttttle bit rougher up the Hopkins on the way to Red hut but on the whole it's nothing serious at all until the top of the valley.

sorry that was my fault .... a few people were talking about it so I hassled Taz and he organised it .... organising early gives us NI's more time to save up for ferry/fuel/etc
