Ln106 PTO Winch
Ln106 PTO Winch
I was wondering what is involved in fitting a PTo winch to my LN106 hilux.
Its got the standard 5 speed box.
Saw this on trademe: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =454672508
Which got me wondering. It says on the cert tag that its a Daihatsu box.
Do i need a different gearbox, or in there an out put on the factory box.
Cheers

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
you would need to do what they have done. rugger box wont go behind your hilux engine without a lot of work. but it would be one way to get a pto.. rugger pto isnt easy to come by. probably better to adapt a landcruiser box and transfer in to your hilux. short answer is no pto and hiluxs dont really go together. but nothing is impossible if you want to throw enough money at it

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
I didnt think you were allowed to cert two different rim sizes
Interesting

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
As it says in the ad, Motor, gearbox, transfercase and PTO winch all Daihatsu Rugger. The Rugger 2.8 engine is way different to the Hilux 2.8, however the Toyota Blizzard comes out with Toyota 2LT and Daihatsu gearbox/case and often has PTO option so it is possible to put the Blizzard 2.4 gearbox behind your Hilux 2.8 and then have PTO.
Wil require modifying gearbox mounts and possibly driveshafts etc, Cert...
There is toyota hilux box that has the PTO output but is very rare (apparently)

I see....
So no semi simple fit.
One of the other forum members has a pto winch on his lj78 coil lwb crusier.
Does anyone know what gearbox he is using?

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
yep the one that came out in the lj78 its a landcruiser box with the transfer case that takes the pto. that box will bolt up behind your engine but not the drive shafts etc.

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
i had a blizzard and had the gearbox out. It is a daihatsu box and transfer case. To fit it all you'd need is a bellhousingfrom a blizzard and the gearbox/transfer case.
Seeing as daihatsu and toyota share a few things(motors) if you had acsess to a toyota box and daihatsu transfer you'd proberly find they'd bolt up.
The winch from a rugger is pretty much the same as the landcruiser one just has a different mount on the engage/disengage side.

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
there isn't a Hilux gearbox that has a PTO, but there are RF1A Transfer-cases that have a PTO output, well they have facility to bolt an output to them, and they are quite common, I have a couple of them on my garage floor, plus one in my DD surf. The hard bit is finding at PTO unit to bolt to the TF Case. There is a company in Italy that has one on their website, but they are next to impossible to deal with, I've tried. Aparantly they bcame out in Japan with the PTO to drive a water pump for a 4x4 fire engine. This is all hearsay of course, I've yet to see real proof. I've toyed with making one to fit, and it may still happen...

Yea it seems to depend who you go to. Had a mate cert his truck a couple of months ago with 15x8's with both 31's or 33's
Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
I was curious about this too as I have a YN67 hilux that has what appears to be a PTO blanking plate at the front passenger side of the transfer case

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
lj71/78 is a r151f hilux/prado box with a cruiser tcase ... 4wd system is vacuum actuated ... you may need to modify your 4wd actuation system. only some of these have the pto gear drive installed in the tcase
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)
Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
3VILC, thats the RF1A hilux TF case with PTO output, like I said, the hard part is getting a pto unit to bolt to it

Re: Ln106 PTO Winch
Thought as much Jafa. And as i think someone mentioned before and think I have read elsewhere too Toyotas often don't actually have the drive gear in the box either. Mint truck you've go there tho Jafa
