Can someone educate me about fiddle brakes?

Been thinking about these and have a question.........
How are they plumbed in? Or do you run an extra calipar on each corner?
Or can they just be "T" jointed in at each wheel?

Any clues would be awesome or if its a muppet question....... well you fellas will let me know :lol: :lol:

you run each brake like through a hilman Imp master cylinder to each calliper, the Imp master cylinders use a remote resivour so the have a standard 1/4 NPT (or whatever the thread is) fitting at each end to plumb the brake line through. When your not using the fiddles the fluid flows straight through the IMP master cylinder and it has no effect on the braking. You have plumb seperate feeds down to the callipers so your not braking left and right at the same time on a shared brake line :mrgreen:

Both work :)

seperate caliper on each wheel, means independant of main braking system so certification is not a issue, use a clutch master 5/8 or 3/4 depending on the caliper used

inline wheel brakes, use a hillman imp master or even landrover master i think, has threaded fittings on both in and out ports, levers work the cylinder to work the caliper, if driver puts foot on brake he over rules the wheel brake cylinder if he pushes hard enough, the inline master MUST be set up so it cannot get the piston assembly blown out by the main brakes, if it does you lose brakes, so basically a mechanical stop on the push rod suffices.

wheel brakes are fun :) rear for quick turns, and fronts to drag the front off hills, both for true skid steer, need reasonable power to make work effectively, and you will roll at least once playing with them, generally in a flat paddock to :) those who will say have not rolled have not played hard enough with them !!!,
also navigator can decide to turn left even if the drivers turns right, navigator will win

This is interesting tech

...so what sort of caliper would you need in the rear to make fiddles work well, for both the separate caliper setup, and inline setup?

And has someone got their truck certified with separate caliper fiddles?

bigger pistons are better, more force=better braking, stock caliper even drum will work but need to get leverage up,
i do not think there would be cert required as you have not modded anything from stock. just added and if it is a bolt on mod then should be all good.

Imp M/C's are part # P5060 at BNT, price if your up north are about $25 each, mine cost me $40 each. look very similar to trailer brake m/c's. I use the pistons/plungers of my old fiddle setup which was old coralla calipers with trailer brake m/c's...

crap photo, will get better one later. I only run rear fiddles as have 8" hydro rams at both ends for steering...
