Pajero CV joint

Post by thebaldone »

Hi, I'm after some advice on a suspension/ steering noise please.

I have a clunky/popping type of noise coming from the drivers side on my 94 swb. Having had a few good looks underneath it's obvious my suspension needs an overhaul. A few torn boots here and there however I reckon I've tracked the noise down to the cv joint.

The boot on the cv joint fine and I'm not getting the pop pop noise you traditionally get when turning or on hard lock. Though it could be upper or lower ball joints but I've tried greasing them and it didn't seem to make a difference.

If it is possible to examine and re- grease the cv joint without totally removing the cv joint or boot?

Bottom ball joint
I've had the same thing with my old KZN-130 surf, get a bar (crowbar etc) and put it under the castle-ated nut, move it up and down, if theres no movement, try and put it on the side and use something to lever against, even a small amount of movement in the joint can cause a lot of knocking.

Thanks or the reply. Suspension does my head in. Tie rod ends definitely need replacing based on their boots but I don't reckon they are making this noise. I tried jacking it up and rocking the wheel and got movement side to side but none up and down so I guess my hubs are ok?

I also noticed today that when I bounce the front drivers side I can hear the clunk after even a small depression and the movement and noise whilst driving has gotten a lot worse.

I took for a warrant a couple of days ago and it passed no worries. Strange.

I had a grinding from my front right hub. Turned out the roller bearings on the inside of the wheel bearing (where the axle goes in to the inside of the hub) were absolutely stuffed. Need to take the whole hub off and grind / cut out the bearing.
