What is the red thingy down the front of the auto shift lever on a Nissan Mistral?

most likely the shift lock override, so you can change the gear lever out of park without putting foot on brake..

Its the transmission lock override as previously stated. Its great if you want to shift the vehicle without getting the keys, just push the button and select neutral haha
