Cherokee lift kit?
Cherokee lift kit?
Well I've had a rough run with the jeep and now that she's running good, rust is all done etc, Iv restored a bit of faith in her again, I think it's about time to treat her.
I want to lift it a bit but there's bugger all quality components to chuck at it to get it up around 3 - 4.5inches. The kits I've been looking at in the states are reasonably priced even after exchange rate but the damn shipping charges are just to damn high to stomach especially when it costs way more then the kit itself.
What to do........bite the bullet and fork out some shipping costs or build some thing from scratch from grand Cherokee front coils, Blazer rear leafs etc....

Re: Cherokee lift kit?
theres a couple of freight outfits in the US that are kiwi/aussie owned and do shit real cheap..... if anyone has the names chime in now 'cause i cant remember em. Kiwi imports/ kiwi shipping or something like that.
Seriously, off the top of my head an entire pallet costs like $200.00.
hopefully someone can give you some more specific details.

Re: Cherokee lift kit?
Yeah i've been looking at getting a long arm kit for an XJ Cherokee. Shipping is herendous, I was told $1200.00 from Iron Rock Offroad for their 8 inch kit.
4WD Accessories in Christchurch is pricing me a 6" Full Traction Long Arm kit, and I also have 4wdusa.com.au pricing for me the same product. I'm hoping they have better shipping costs.
Let me know what shipping costs you come back with.

Re: Cherokee lift kit?
I think I'll be going with a Full Traction 6" kit, I've put together a PDF of the installation process of one of these kits onto an XJ.

Price of one of these kits I've told should not cost more than roughly $3.6k NZD landed if its in your budget.
I've priced a full build including vehicle, lift kit, slip yoke, custom cv driveshaft, and 4x 33 inch mud tyres ($400 per tyre) - total cost $11,708.00
Should make it a very capable 4wd. The price includes $1500 for any unforseen work, 12 hours labour @ $65.00 + GST.
Edit: Guys if I have missed any key components required for a 6" Long Arm Kit to be fitted please inform me so I can add this to the budget cost. - I hope to put a full cost guide together, and compare it to actual costs spent when I start my Project Crawler.
Oh and sharktale hope this is helpful information for your topic.

Re: Cherokee lift kit?
Kiwi shipping quotes are really really good, its upto 150kgs and the size of a pallet for $334 landed in NZ to your nearest Mainfreight depot or $247 upto 80kgs.
Yep cherokees do love water haha learnt that the hard way.
Not gona get carried away with this project, just the basic like tyres lift snorkel......etc
This here with the full leaf pack would be roughly around 1200.00 odd nz dollars landed

Hi XJCrawler....
I have put the Rough Country 6.5LA Kit in my XJ.
A few things I don't think you have mentioned, and may consider.
1) The Panhard Bar and bracket supplied with these kits, will not fit our right hand drive XJ's. I had to fabricate my own bracket, and had an adjustable Panhard Bar made. (the yank panhard bars do not fit around the front diffhead).
2) My XJ had to go through the 'Low Volume Cert' Process. As part of the inspection, my inspector believed that the draglink bar from the pitman arm, was at a 'too steep angle' due to the lift. As a result of his recommendations, I did an 'over the knuckle' swap with the front ball joints. This reduced the angle of the draglink bar, but I could not fit my standard XJ rims back on (I wanted to leave these on for WOF issues only), so now I had to use my 33's and 8inch rims to complete the inspection...... Now this lead to ANOTHER issue - due to the larger tyres, the speedo now had to be calibrated..... The cost of re-calibrating the speedo??? - $700.00.
3) Due to the height of your lift, please consider these points.
I also wanted to beef-up the steering Box against the frame rail, so I fabbed a bracket which now fits under the engine and across to the opposing rail. ALSO.... as the Panhard bracket is now longer, this definitely requires beefing-up against the frame rail also. I have fabbed up another bracket which also reaches across to the other side of the truck. - The extra work in making everything stronger paid off earlier this year when I drove into a hidden tomo in a paddock. All my brackets held up to the sudden stop, but the control arm brackets on the front diff nearly twisted off!! Bugger...
I've got a couple of piccies of my XJ on page 17 of the "Show us you Jeep" section. If you need any help with more pics, or what ever, give me a yell.

Re: Cherokee lift kit?
bit of an update.....well i got the 4.5 rough country lift kit in with the full rear leafs control arms shocks etc....and yes the trans case drop. Im happy with kit but im faced with another problem. The front drive shaft needs shortning, its fully compressed in itself (if thats how you describe it) so its currently 2wd. How do you get around this with out doing the obvious?
Will put some pics up at some stage, also got some black steelies, really coming together nicely i think.
