New Diff lockers Hilux

Post by 007 »

Hi All

Have a B day coming up and though might shout myself some front and rear diff lockers for my Suzuki, Hilux diffs.

Back ground
I currently have lock right front and LSD rear and my rig it is a hand full, I also think it will be a little easier on my CV's if my diff are not locked all the time.
Due to the 5L v8 my rig which is a little front heavy   .

Any way help is needed
Price is a factor, who sells the deals on lockers?
Yukon any good and what kind off price or do you know of who I could talk to.

Has anybody tried these, very cheap from trademe.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 767106.htm

Do you know who installs these or are they not that hard.

Any info and help would be great

Thanks for all your help.

Warmly

although I've never personaly heard of anyone having problems with those chinese lockers you'd never catch me sticking one in any of my trucks, especially when you can buy ARB's out of the states for $835 USD retail. Front diff locks are always really hard on CV's and personaly I dont think they are worth the trouble unless you stick chromemolly axle/CV's in like longfield 30 spline bling supersets

Stash your money and keep an eye on TM .... ARB ones come up occasionally. Eaton E-Lockers might be an option as well

You can buy those directly from China for US$450. You can actually get the RD132 as well.

Has anyone brought lockers from The states?

What was the shipping cost, and did you have to pay gst?

Thanks

Thanks for the tips and having the links was a great help

Im still a little lost,

If I go arb is it the rd123 that I need.

If any one has exaperiance. What is the cheapest way to get these from the states. ie freight company

I herd Today that Toyota van 5.22 ring and pinion fit the hilux diff. Is this tru? If so that could be a good option from the factory 4.88

Costing so far.
Importing china one $450 usd one, with risk
As an estimate
$450 = $560nzd+gst =$644 + freight?
Or $1050 tm

Arb 850usd $1050nzd +gst =$1207 pluss freight?

V8 plus 5.3 van diffs = pop. They are a good low ratio but are very weak, especially with a bit of power behind them. You can buy aftermarket gears that are a lot stronger.

That's Steve from 4WD Fibreglass in Hamilton selling those. He is a long time 4WD'er and knows is stuff. He wouldn't be selling rubbish and buying local you have less hassle and a consumer guarantee unlike the high risk option of importing yourself.

As for fitting in Wellington any diff specialist should be able to set up teh diffs for you otherwise maybe G Guy Motors, but they are ARB agents so may want to fit ARB. Could be worth popping in for a chat and see what they can do for you.

http://www.rocky-road.com/toyarb.html around $200USD to send it.
Would be around $1500-1600 NZD landed plus the cost of a compressor and installing it.

my opinion and nothing to do with the question you asked, but...

its a pretty new truck and your still getting used to it, hang fire on spending $2k or $3k on it coz there will be plenty of time to spend that and lots more than that later on, maybe rip the 2 diffs out and shove the auto locker in the rear where its not going to be able to have any affect on your steering, break your CV's or anything else and shove the LSD in the front and most toyota LSDs are shit and work like open diffs anyway so that'll reduce any stress on the front end when you give the 304 a bit too much of a squirt at the wrong time and in the wrong place  :x and then just go out and get some seat time and get used to the truck and how it works and how it likes to be driven and how hard you can punish it to find its weak pionts then start planning the money spending exercises $$ :D :D $$ once you've got all that under your belt

I had a chat with Steve today. He seems like a good guy. He gave me the idea about the van Dina or hiace ring and pinion 5.22 can fit the diff. So getting a second hand ring and pinion should not be hard to find.

If going for the chines lockers Steves seem the way to go.And the compressor is only $100

good luck! they are near impossible to find, ive seen a few sets pop up on trademe though, in saying that your better off buying aftermarket gears, if theres one thing ive learnt about diffs is your better to build a quallity set of diffs and new bearings and get them setup good, they last longer and handle more abuse.

Good point, I was hoping commercial dismantlers should have them, but have not tried yet. I have been quoted $650+GST each for a new set, about $750incl.

Wonder what ARB diff lockers and ARB compressors cost in NZ?

I trashed 3 5.29 after mark R&P on the road in the cruiser with an autolocker. Ended up putting an ARB to avoid that little problem. The R&P's were costing me $300NZD delivered from the US (With my brother doing the shipping, US Postal service do a small fixed price box for $38USD and an R&P fit in just right :-)

I have a Chinese Locker for my Isuzu Mu and I have had nothing but trouble with mine, also I know one person with one in his Terrano and he has had a good run with his.

Personally I would pay the bucks to get an ARB one, or other brand of Locker.

Cheers.

Is the trouble un locking as Steve Advised that is to do with the installation.

I did have an arb locker in my swb GU. It worked a treat apart from the bolts comming off  , which I think went down to installation era.
