Have had a bit to do with them after the Terrano one went bung. Tryed every trick i could find to avoid a rebuild.

How slippy??

If the oils old, then yep could have started to break down..........

There was one instance i read about where a guy with a V6 Pathfinder changed the oil and he couldn't believe the difference, he stated that now it even wheel spins from a standstill if you try.....

Just make sure you get the correct oil, don't use dexron 2 if it needs dexron 3, that whats killed the Terrano, so they told me.

From what i have found out, there are two indicators for the state of the trans:

If it rev's quite high as your setting off, or seems like its slipping alot underload uphill, (both mean its locked in gear) that generally indicates the oil has lost its viscosity and isn't providing the torque convertor with enough resistance to transfer the power to the gear box efficiently.

If it's free reving between gear changes, or the changes are painfully slow, thats an indication that the fluid could be knackered, and also that clutches are worn out and seals are starting to go.

So flush the trans as best as posible, throw a new filter at it and drive it till it stops going forward. Then worry about it

I've rebuilt a few V6 commy transmissions in my time (had 9 years as a Holden tech u see 8) )

does it still have a "kick down" cable (which isn't actually - it controls line pressure for the trans)

Give me a call on my cell or text me ya home ph and I'll give ya a shout and talk you thru it. :)

You're a good man, Rangie, You gotta help pore old Bean, he is helpless in the face of adversity.
OHHH BTW, DONT forget to use small words and space them far apart, he has a very short attention span and loses the thread very easily.
ypu know the deal, talk slowly, loudly and he is bound to get it. Lots of repetitions too.

DAMN dint catch a single fish in three days. Close tho, I think it is called long distance catch and release!!!! Still, i learnt a lot.

My brother met my father on the crest of a hill on the farm once. He was on a motorbike and my father was in the flatdeck ute that the deck stuck out about 150-200mm.

Needless to say, it was messy :( It could have been worse (ie, head on) but he brushed down the side of the ute, took the big truck style wing mirror off and then the handle bars and the top of his leg hit the deck. The bottom corner of the deck puched through his leg and broke his fema.

It makes me cringe every time I think of it....

hehehe, sorry about that  It just bought back memories when lilpigzuk mentioned the dead leg thing!

I'm sure you won't have any problems with people banging into it. And if they do they deserve a dead leg... haha
