Safari Oil's

Post by Suza »

Hi All
I have just bought my first Safari. 1991 TD42 Manual LWB with PTO winch. Now I want to do a complete change of all fluids as I do this with all vehicles that I buy and this one has spent the last 2 years parked up under some trees (Took 1.5 days to clean the paint work up).
What I need to know is what is the recomened oil spec for the motor, gear box and transfer, diffs (rear is LSD) and the PTO.

Cheers

the pto is real thick 680 grade, I had to use a sludge gun to refill the Saf winch on my truck

BP Vanellus C4 for the engine is what I use, not sure if they still make it though, hope you are feeling rich to, the engine holds about 10 litres with both filters done.

I use the stuff from the castrol lube guide...see above. Castrol Tection? global es 15w-40 is good in the engine. Been running that for the past 4-5 services.
Mobil Delvac was the best in my experience but it seems to be getting more and more pricey.

Tried sinopec 15w-40 in a GQ a while ago and it was shit. Was thin like water after 3 months of daily town driving to work and back. Won't touch it again.

if the pto winch is worm drive then need to use the proper oil.
moreys make a range of oils for worm drives and its same price as engine oil.
