Thanks sketchy I will. It has a bit more to go. Im upgrading the gearbox hopefully this week with a bit of weight coming off the flywheel.
Trying to turn this into an awesome sand/ beach wagon for the family.

You'll love the lightened flywheel. I took about 5kg off mine, made it a different truck to drive.

Still cant get over how tough the motors are. I boiled mine so many times and it never missed a beat. Hydrolocked it once and shortened a rod 1mm, still ran fine just missed when cold, although I think that was the injector.

replaced motor when I sold it as I felt bad but still recon the thrashed motor went better haha!

Got my new hid lights today. Also fitting a later model navara grill from a d21 ute I chopped up.
Give my terrano the more modern look, I also think the grill will flow more air as well but hey who knows.

The stock lights are a joke. Like a dad joke( not funny).

Here is my flywheel lightened up.
It was at 17 and now its at 13 kilos.
I asked to have more removed but getting quality work out of an Australian is near impossible.
So 4 kilos will have to do

I like those grills. This is something I would like to do to my Terrano if I can source one cheap enough.

Yeah they do look better ay.
A friend and I bought a d21 for 350 and wrecked it. had a td27t in it as well as lot of other parts. Manual locking hubs etc.


If you decide to get one of these grilles you need the light support brackets as well as the park lights as this grill sets the head lights higher in the car

Looks good Wax. Those the crystal type lights?
I guess another bonus of changing to those square style lights is you can get full sealedbeam type, good if doing much river/water driving. Just make sure you get halogen not the cheapy ones as they are terrible light output

Yes they are the crystal type. its semi sealed ones. They are hid lights.

I have been out today just getting my flywheel ready to be machined to fit a gtr pressure plate. They have the same cover as an rb20 std from what I can gather but bugger that I want this sucker to hold in there

Crap I went out today and ruined my centre link arm. No more 4x4 for a few weeks while I sort out the 2wd conversion

Ok well its full speed ahead on fixing my steering now as its not a nice thing to drive anymore on account of the centre link worn out again

I have decided to do the steering box idler arm thing and started on it today.
Here it is stripped then extra stuff cut off and welded back together. Its great being a shop teacher.

I had thought a LHD steering box would be needed, but it would seem not.
My mates old surf used to bend the idler arm itsself. Maybe terranos have stronger shaft design... Box setup will be even stronger

Yeah I have a mate with 35/s on his toyota and it bends the shaft all the time. I dont think the terrano dies as the centre link dies before the idler has a chance to bend. Im going to use the 2wd system so it will put the tierods at a better angle, this should fix all the centre link issues.
I will get all this sorted then shove some massive tyres under it with a 2inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift

When the centre link dies, does it bend the link itself? Or just kill the ball-joints on the ends?

I like the idea of 2wd centre link putting tie rods on correct axis for lifted vehicles. And the longer tierod length reducing angle at outer joint too (the link you put on Big ALF's thread was good reading).
Almost as if nissan mixed up the 4wd and 2wd steering systems from factory....

It kills the ball joints on the end because of the twisting action caused by the angle of the tie-rods.
Yeah I was looking at all sorts of systems to make the steering work and then found that info on the 2wd. I reckon with the steering box idler you can leap at rocks from a great distance

But it will still wear out the outer ball joints on the TRE's won't it? They will still be at the same angle, just the inners being rotated 90deg?

it doesnt ruin the tie rods other than bend them pete.
It ruins the ball joints on the centre link. The longer arms of the 2wd complete tie rod reduces the angle that the tie rod is on and so it makes them stronger by the fact its a straighter push.

Yeah, kinda does, but I actually wear out more ball joints, (inners and outers) on my rig than centre links! That's why I asked about the outers wearing, but I see the length has increased and the angle too.

I have a 2WD linkage set laying about here so I just might look at doing the mod too. Just need to find someone to cut the new threads for the outer TRE's?

Not sure why you are wearing out tie-rod ball joints. Most people just ruin centre links and bend tie rods.

The 2wd centre link also mounts the tie-rod closer to the centre of the centre link as well so its mechanical advantage is better as well. The 4x4 ones are out of centre and make for a great leverage in comparision

No you tap the 4x4 adjuster to suit the 2wd tie rods, The 2wd tie rods are bigger than the 4x4 ones.

I have to slot the holes but I decided to paint it and will touch it up afterwards as well.

Side note.....I have bent a steering box shaft before. Bloody big hit though, broke a radius arm shaft at the same time
