Post by nstacey »

Hi,
Anyone got a torque wrench I can borrow? I need one that'll do 500nm for a hub replacement on Dad's disco.

Yep, about that Sadam. The manual specifies 490Nm or 362 ft/lb. It suggests two people may be required to torque it. Skid, is yours a 3/4 inch drive? All of the ones I've seen on Trademe that go that high are 3/4 inch.

A little 1/2" Snap-on rattle gun will do the best part of 1000ft/lb... how precise do you need the torque to be?

Now I know Snap On is good but a half inch rattle gun doing 1000 ft lb ------ 1357 nm :o , we use inch drive ones at work and they would struggle to do that.

nstacey, if you have got the socket use a power bar and a 1 meter length of pipe don't be silly but a good firm pressure ( as if you were doing a bolt up tight ) on the end of the pipe will be in my opinion very close.

MG725 will do 1600Nm break-away torques

Personally I would just lean on it with your average rattle gun and call it near enough... but I'm a fkn butcher who shouldn't be allowed near air tools :)
