Exemp class B mobile machinery Registration

Post by hosehustler »

Wher I work (at airport) our vehicles are registered as class b even though they are quite obviously not a tractor, or "Farm" (as we commonly know) Had an interesting conversation this morning with a knowledgeable friend which sparked debate, the question is not that I want my trailer queen registered to drive it on the road, but to register it as a exempt class b "mobile machinery" as it will have REG and a WOF class B ) to be able to compete in such events as i'm currently outlawed from.....Westport challenge.

The addition of a pintel hook or similar fitting should allow for legal registration "exempt class B" as "Mobile Machinery" :?:
From the NZTA Site, the clause that would cater;

Mobile machinery

Any vehicle (other than a tractor) with machinery permanently attached, designed to be used on the road for driving, carrying or propelling : airport runway sweepers; electrical substations; filters for transformer oil; stationary log haulers; or aero engine test benches.

I know it's been discussed before under "farm rego", but I would like to revist said discussion under a different subject heading and new debate

Our work vehicles come under the "miscellaneous" heading.
please read the link in full before posting

How is a pintel hook permenantly attached machinery? I here what yhou are saying but the statement you have quoted needs to be read as a whole not just the underlined bit.

might be better to look at a crash tender only used on roads in an emergency, depending on how good your boss is.

For the purposes you talk about that would work as it wont ever actually see the road.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

My reading of the statement is the underlined part is the rule, after that are examples, all types of vehicles used in or near an airport are not listed, also airport vehicles are often on the road without trailers.
I'm not stating "i'm correct" or "I can register it as a tractor"
here's a bit more info

Crash tenders are not only used on the roads during emergencies, they still require repairs, and general on road use non-emergency related.

We have couple utes and so does contractor on b reg with no wofs..... I cant see whhy you could just put it on b or do you need wof for competion? If so what about trailer reg and set a a frame up on it and then try run it through wof as trailer? Worth a shot

tim
i have been on farm rego class b for 4 years, you dnt need a wof and you dnt pay road users charges, which i knw dont apply to you,but mine is certed and wof and farm rego and passed cert on farm rego,i have a 50k raduis of my farm thou, lol, thats why i have a wof just incase i get pulled heading to the coast or chch,at least i only get fined for the wrong rego, and i only pay $47 a year i think, when mine goes for a wof its says on the screen of the wof guys computer ,this is not subject for wof ie not needed, but hey the end of the day mine does stay within the 50k raduis of the farm 80% of the time
and the difference is mine says b on the rego sticker
